Car sickness HELP! Ok, so i had this vision of being able to travel with my Yorkie and take her to the park and just out when i go to stores, but she is horrendously car sick. She throws up everytime, luckily she is usually in her crate, but still she get's all gross and needs a bath anytime i transport her anywhere. I had heard that sometimes they will get used to it, but she hasn't so far. Please give me any advice! and thanks in advance:confused: |
Sophie did this when we first began taking her places. I read on here that car seats help so we bought a Snoozer Lookout II and she LOVES it. She falls asleep most of the time and the carsickness is down to a minimum. We also make sure to "condition" her to car rides by just taking her out as much as we can, even on short trips to town. Also, make sure not to feed her too much before going out. I try to take Sophie's food away roughly 1 hour before we go out. I take treats and nutri-cal with us on trips, even short ones, just in case she needs something quick, but she usually does fine. I also recently started to carry a stainless steel bowl and some water in a thermos and I let her have some. That has helped, too. You can also try keeping the window down a little bit or keeping the air conditioner on her during the trip, that seems to help a little, too. Saturday we went on a 30 minute car ride to Jackson and then out to several places while we were there and then 30 minutes back. Total, she was probably riding in the car for 2-3 hours because we went to so many places. The only thing she did was drool, which I can handle, but I'm hoping it stops eventually, too. She still gets sick a few times, but it's not bad at all. Most times, she just drools. Sorry this was so long, but I wanted to detail everything that has helped us.:) |
Oh no, it wasn't too long at all, I appreciate all your advice. I have tried not feeding her before going (like all day) and she still throws up i guess stomach juices i don't know. I will try your other suggestions and see how she does, thanks again:D |

I wouldn't let her go without food for more than an hour or two since she can get low blood sugar. That could have actually contributed to the sickness if she was throwing up liquid and nothing solid. Hopefully some of my suggestions will help! |
good topic my mula always barfs on car rides even if she has eaten over 3/4 hours before we go out and its been roughly 8 months of car rides already more tips on this subject would be greatly appreciated p.s mulas hubby mclovin barfs too:confused::( it would be great to be able to take them out and not have to clean up :thumbdown |
LOL Eva just barfed today on the way home from the vet. Husband was holding her and most of it flew out the window. Well so we thought. Got home and out of the car to find barf splattered all down the side of the car. Poor thing, the drooling and yawning comes first then lunch! She ate 4 hours earlier so doesn't really matter when we feed her. I need a cure fo this too. |
Upset while Riding Pebbles always hyperventilated & crawled all over me even with a short trip to the vet as well as threw up. He said to use draimamine (the tablets are scored) & he said to give her half the childrens dose (she's 8 lbs.) So she got half of a half of a dose. We went 4 hrs. to the beach & she did great. She didn't throw up & she was alert & happy during the trip. I'm not so worried about her traveling anymore. |
