Itching, scratching, skin, etc. Our two-year old male silky has been scratching under his mid-section a lot. Our vet gave him pills that helped a bit, but we don't want to keep him on meds unless it's really necessary. Is there an ointment or other externally-applied product that we can use? |

What pills were given? When did it start? Did you change foods or treats before this? Any ear infections, paw licking/paw biting? |
What cleaning products are you using on the floor? What food are you feeding him? Name the brand please. |
Hot Rod came to use itching and with dry flaky skin. After all said and done, we got him on different food and started using medicated shampoo and medicated conditioner and it has done the trick. I also just noticed that he's allergic to poultry. whenever it seems that we give him turkey, he starts to gnaw at his paws. so I've stopped giving him that. He may get a nibble occasionally but not in his food like he used to. :( It's a shame because he loves chicken. Good luck in finding out what is going on with your little one. Hugs, B |
I also have a dog with allergies. I am going the holistic way of treatment. I have been cleaning her ears with diluted vinegar and water. (Cleans & dries out the ear better than OTC ear cleaners). I treat with Zymox ear cleaner, Zymox medicine and shampoo, which can be purchased online. I also read that if it is a yeast infection, you should give Vitamin C and there is a product called Pau d'arco (Pow darko) which is a herb useful in treating yeast infections. I have just ordered the pau d'arco and will post back with results. I also have my dogs on Ziwipeak dog food. It is expensive, but very healthy and my dogs LOVE it!!! Overall, she has improved dramatically since I first got her a year and a half ago. |
Growing Pains Sydney has been itching and chewing on her hind quarters since I got her. She also rubs her body along the wall. I asked the vet and he said that her skin was fine and that she didn't have any parasites. He said she was having growing pains and itching and chewing on their back legs is common. |

Misty Poo needs help!! My 6 year old baby is having a really rough time, she scratches all the time and has severe dry skin. I was bathing her in a flea & tick shampoo but I believe it is making it worse. We have been through the different changes of food and nothing seems to work. Her vet gave us some advise but that did not help. PLEASE can someone help me and Misty. She also has red blotches on her skin where she has scratched so much. I need to know what shampoo would help her and would vit E help. |
I give her Frontline once a month. The vet did check for fleas, but he found nothing. It still makes you wonder, though, doesn't it? The vet did say that this time of year the fleas are bad in our region. With cold weather coming, the fleas are looking for anything warm. Quote:
