Interesting! So all this talk about Ethoxyquin..made me contact Evo which I guess Evo is made by Natura... about if they had Ethoxyquin in Evo Red Meat small bites (thats what I feed Peanut) Here is what they said Dear Deanna, Thank you for contacting Natura Pet Products. We do not use chemical preservatives, such as ethoxyquin. Natura’s foods are preserved with rosemary extract, vitamin E and vitamin C. We also test our ingredients to make sure they are free from chemical preservatives such as BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin. If you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at your convenience. Best regards, Heather, Licensed Veterinary Technician Natura Consumer Service Rep custserv@naturapet.com 800.532.7261 Is that good? LOL I am a dope when it comes to food!! |
Pretty much if the food is made in the US and contains fish meal, then it has to contain ethoxyquin because that's what fish meal has to be preserved with. Evo doesn't contain fish and Natura doesn't use chemical preservatives, so you should be fine. On the other hand, it is possible that one of their meat suppliers uses it and they do not have to list it on the ingredients. I doubt it though. |

It may be the fat content (which isn't really high, but higher than a lot of other foods). It is also very high in protein and that should be fine, but it wouldn't be my preference. I just think there are better foods out there. :) |

Well what do you think is a good food for a 2 year old yorkie to be on? |
I really don't like any dog food (IMO is it all terrible), but if I had to feed it, I'd look at Natural Balance and regular Innova first. Not canned Innova...much too high in fat. If you want higher protein, then maybe Orijen would be worth a look. If your Yorkie is doing fantastic on Evo though, there is probably no reason to switch. |

I have heard one report that Evo caused a dog's triglycerides to raise, but nothing from a vet about it, so... |
