Anal tearing Oscar seems to have tears in his anal sphincter. He can't seem to hold in his poop. It's like he doesn't feel it coming out. Has anyone had any experience with this. He is currently under the vet's care for digestive issues (chronic diarrhea) but his poop is still very mushy and he has blood coming from his bum. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow but I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about this and if they have experienced anything similar. My poor baby, he's gone through so much in his short little life. I just want the diarrhea to stop! I've had to put diapers on him so he doesn't keep licking his bum and eating his poop. :( |
Oh the poor thing. I do not know much about it- however, i do believe it can be repaired through surgery ( i think i remember hearing something about it ) however, i would seriously do my homework and make sure you have chosen the best surgeon out there. To help with his digestive issues- is he on a pro biotic daily? I'd imagine he would need a pretty high dose to help him regulate his system. |
I do have him on a probiotic called Geneflora. It doesn't seem to be working yet. Maybe I should try something new. I gave him a little pepto tonight to hopefully help a little, hopefully it works. If they can fix his problem with surgery, that would be great. I have found a really great vet who seems to really care about Oscar and wants to do all he can to help him. I just want to make him better. It's so sad when the poor little things are sick and you can't help. |

Unfortunately he has been like this for a while and we have tried so much and had so many tests done. All of the tests came back negative, which is good, but we still really don't know what is wrong with him. He's on a steroid and digestive enzymes now and his appetite has gotten so much better and he has a ton of energy and he put on weight, but he still has the mushy poop. We used to give him pumpkin but recently he started to not like it. He used to go crazy for it and recently he would just run away from it. Maybe it was because he was really sick and now that he is feeling a little better he might like it again. I'll have to try again. |
I realize this is not the same problem that your little one has, but I have one (a 10 lb. Pommie) that seems to get diarrhea from anything he touches other than his food. To make it worse he eats or chews on everything he finds.....inside and outside. My vet has him on 1/2 Pepcid 2x's per day and 1/8 tsp. Primal Defense 4 hrs. after eating. Helps as long as he doesn't chew on a rawhide, nylabone, destroy a toy and ingest some of the threads, etc. I also know that he does better when he is on Tylan, but so far my vet has been reluctant to put him on it all the time. That's interesting, Oscar loves Nylabones and I just took them off of him because he was tearing them up and I saw little pieces of the blue dental chew one in his poop and I was wondering if they had possibly cut him and made him bleed. I stopped giving him them and now he plays with a toy called an Orka which won't break up. I started putting neosporin on his bum yesterday and it actually looks better today. Maybe the poor little guy just needs some time to heal. My heart breaks for him everytime I can't fix him. He doesn't seem to be in pain anymore though thank God. Hopefully he is on the mend. Just everyone keep him in your prayers and thoughts if you could I would really appreciate it. |
I tried giving Piper Orka toys thinking they would be safer than Nylabones but soon realize that she could chew little pieces off the toy. I found little blue pieces of the Orka in her stools. Now the only chew I give Piper is the bully sticks and have had no problems with them. Hope Oscar feels better real soon. |
Thanks for the advice and kind words. I'll have to keep and eye on the Orka too. |
