Neon green anal discharge? I took JoJo to the groomer today and she expelled his anal glands for the first time. I didn't know he needed it done as his stools are fine and he doesn't scoot or anything. He's on the Nature's Variety raw/kibble rotation diet. But she told me that his discharge was neon green! She told me it's probably nothing to worry about, that he may have just eaten something unusual and to keep an eye on his stools for the next couple days. Anyone experience this? |
Groomers use to automatically express anal glands whether the dog was having problems or not. Many vets now believe that this shouldn't be done unless the glands are full. Dogs should empty the glands a little each time they have a bowel movement and the contents of the glands add a "special scent" to their poop. If not done properly you can push the contents further up the canal, and many people say that once you do it you have to continue to do it. I'm not sure if the color has any significance, I would visually check the area every day just to see if it's filling up again, sometimes adding fiber to the diet helps with this, and I'd call the vet and ask about the color. |
I am not sure if the color matters. During Bobby's visit to the vet to get his expressed I do remember the vet saying its clear. I would call the vet and ask about the color. |
I'll give the vet a call tomorrow just to be safe. Thank you. :) |
