Carrots??!! Hi Everyone... I find that whenever I have a concern with Lucky, I check here before his Vet...lol What I need to know is, has anyone that has fed their baby raw carrot sticks ever had an after effect of runny poop? Lucky has been runny since last nite and the only thing he had different was a carrot stick! He isn't sick, when it comes to his behavior, is isn't any different at all! It's just his poop...and there isn't any traces of the carrot in it, that's what got me wondering. Is it possible that maybe he just picked up a bellie bug like we humans would? Any comments would be helpful!!:( I love this website.......lol Lucky's mommy:aimeeyork |
I'm going to say it isn't the carrot- could just be a fluke. When Layla has diarrhea I give her plain canned pumpkin- fixes it quite fast. In the future I would only give real carrots- not the baby ones. I read in a health magazine that they may have cholrine in them- hard to say if that is true but I'd rather be safe than sorry :) |
It wasn't baby carrots ...I am nervous that he will choke on them...lol! But I am thinking it is just a virus too....thanks for the pumpkin idea, I will certianly try it! It is just that this is his first time being runny and I wanted to ask others about their babies!! Thank you.... |

How old is he? If he is young and tiny (4 lbs and under) I wouldn't let it go on for too long. I'd try the pumpkin for a few days and then go to the vet. When they are young you don't wantt o mess around- the older they get the more familliar you get with what is going on with them. I'm sure it is just something he picked up or whatever :) |
I fed my baby a piece carrot today and he ended up with loose stools too... thats the first time i ever tried it. I don't know if thats the cause or not I'm going to wait and see if he has it tomorrow then I am going to call my vet but that is the only thing different in his diet. |
Carrots and Yorkies Well, I'm not an authority, but I have given my Yorky carrots before and had no problems with runny stools,(or any other gastric problem) from them. A friend,(with several Yorkies) gives her dogs carrots and she mentioned it helped clean their teeth too. Whether it is true? I give my dog a small finger sized pre-shaved carrot once in a great while so it won't be too many extra calories and sugar for her. All Yorkies are different, just like people though and maybe some can't tolerate raw vegies very well. But as suggested by others in here, a young dog should have a vet visit, just to make sure they are not suffering from something more serious or may become dehydrated or worse. Let us know how ya'll are doing, hope all goes well! Abby and me |

We never had diarrhea though. Ironicly, aren't carrots are sometimes used to help treat diarrhea? Not sure if that would be true in dogs though. I don't know if the teeth cleaning this is true, but we never did have tartar issues with Barry! |
