My Yorkie Ate Matches!! Has anyone experienced this? She is 6 lbs and 6 oz - she probably ate anywhere between 6 - 12 wooden stick matches. The small kind, like what you get at a wedding. I took her to the vet and he suggested a blood panel but otherwise felt there was no harm. I know I shouldn't be second guessing the vet but I do worry about ill effects. Anyone have any ideas? Should I feed her wet food (which I usually give as a treat) to push the stuff out? Thank you in advance:aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
i would trust the vet and just monitor her closely, keep her regular routine because she doesn't need a switch up in the middle of digesting those sticks. keep a close eye on her because you don't want them to cause a GA problem when they go down and digest. it's going to be ok, the vet knows best usually and i would just trust that the pup will pull through, as long as the dog isn't laying around without even picking it's head up, you'll be just fine and it'll digest ok i think on it's own |
Don't worry-just listen to your vet. Sophie has chewed up our landscaping bark from time to time and probably swallowed some small pieces at some point with no ill effects what-so-ever. They love wood! Jackie & my :littleangSophie :aimeeyork |
Matches Wow, how scary is that. Please let us know how your baby gets along. Keep an eye on her. As long as she continues eating and pooping everything should come out alright in the end. ;) |
Oh my! Ate them!?! I'm sure if the vet felt she would be okay then all you need to do is keep a close eye on her. Fancy has chewed on sticks in the yard before and even found one of the kids wooden pencils in the floor one day and chewed it up! Silly puppies!! |
Thank you Thank you all for your comments and support. She seems to be OK - she is running around beating up her brother and stealing my socks so I think it will be OK but... geesh! These puppies get into everything!!! I can't imagine the matches tasted good but that didn't sem to be an issue - they will eat anything:confused: |
I hope she's OK! I'm sure if the vet isn't too concerned, she will be fine. Silly pups! Jackson had something in his mouth today, and I finally got him to drop, it was a tack! These dogs. :confuse2: |
I agree with the others, trust your vet and just keep a close eye on her for the next few days. But I've got to say...am I the only one who had the picture of a sweet little Yorkie tooting little puffs of flames?:rolleyes: Imagine what that would do for her self esteem at the dog park. The other dogs certainly wouldn't want to pick on her! Ok, ok, so I'm sick and in need of serious therapy...like that's news to anyone who knows me. :p |

Lily was out in the yard with me today and brought back a present of part of a bird nest all in her mouth. It was as big as her head and I definitely should have taken a picture! |
