Spay & Double Teeth Estimate Bailey went to the vet yesterday for rabies. Luckily she's totally fine, no reaction! I'm glad I waited. Also got a weight for the first time since 4 months. She's 7 and a half months now so probably full grown, and she weighed in at 3 pounds 11 ounces. I'm surprised she's stayed so small! Anyway, while I was there I asked about a quote for her spay as well as microchip and double tooth removal at the same time. Overall it seems a bit pricy. I was just wondering what a good price is. It would be great to hear ballparks of what others paid. Here is the breakdown: $200 for spay itself $60 for blookwork $63 for microchip $85 for tooth removal It's especially the tooth removal that seems high to me, since she only has one small double. Is there any chance at her age that it can still fall out on her own? And how bad is it to have a double tooth if I don't get it pulled? Oh, also he said she might have a luxating patella issue. He said it's stage 1 or something like that. She's always jumping off my bed and I wish she'd stop, but even with the doggy stairs she still jumps! If anyone has any suggestions or experience with that I'd love to know more about what I can do to keep it from getting worse! THANKS! :) |
I think those prices look very good. Prices can vary a great deal by region and I have not had a spay/tooth removal to pay for lately; so, I am not the best one to compare. I think the last dog I took in to be spayed wound up costing around $300 total. But that was quite some time ago. |
:aimeeyork:animal-paPaid 84.00 spay / 60.00 bloodwork / 22.00 1 double removed / $166. total Oklahoma prices not California /thank goodness!!!!! |
Thanks, wow I guess that is a lot then. Maybe it's not so much CA prices as this vet. Maybe I should call around a bit. |
I paid 370 for 6 teeth, neuter, drugs, monitoring and all of his shots. This was the cheapest vet in my area.. Most were charging 450 for then neuter alone!!! |

here's the website DR. KAREN SHANE VETERINARY MEDICAL CENTER (310) 305-PAWS (7297) |
My vet quoted me $135 - $145 for spay, teeth removal, and pain meds. |
My 11 mo old girl just got spayed last week, $85 at Vet's office, and they removed the double tooth she had for free! Oh yeah, they even clipped her nails and brushed her out after surgery until I could come pick her up. |
I joined an animal rescue organization in my area (plannedpethood.com) for only $10 and I will now be able to have my puppy spayed for only $65 at a local animal hospital that supports the animal rescue's work. Great deal because if I wasn't a member of the rescue org., it would have cost me over $350 at the same clinic for spaying, not including teeth. See if there are similar organizations in your area that have relationships with vets or animal hospitals. |
WOW! I live in ft lauderdale, fl and my vet wanted 500 for Brinks to have his extra teeth pulled he only has 1 snaggle tooth. |
Bela Rose got spayed yesterday plus microchiped,i take her to banfield at pets mart. i got the wellness plan and paid $33.00, i live in Norh Carolina |
IMO the baby teeth should be removed for FREE. They don't even have any roots to hold them in and since they are already under for the spay. Everything else seems to be priced about right. In my area, a complete dental is only $165. |
Spayed last month I had my yorkie spayed a month ago, and 10 double teeth pulled. I was charged $196.96, which included putting her to sleep, pain meds, pulling all 10 teeth, and they gave her a bath and cut her nails afterwards. |
Wow Lola's spay would have only cost $115 but I received a $50 voucher from my county's animal shelter. It would have been $25 for double teeth removal but I decided to let them fall out by themselves (which they did within a week). My advice is to shop around and read reviews. I never take the first estimate. ;) |
I jsut had Kingston neutered yesterday. I got a $30 voucher from my animal shelter to go towards his surgery. I paid a total of $175. That included the neuter, pain meds and getting 8 teeth pulled out. |
Bonnie was spayed (pre-op blood work included) for$98. Last month I took her in for appt to have ears checked $20, and they said they had time to pull 7 teeth $15, anesthesia and pain meds $10. They also clipped her toenails and fixed her hair for free. I think I have a very reasonable vet. (and good one too) |
Wow you're lucky you don't live in New Jersey. Estimate which my vet just quoted me. 570.00 Spay pre-op bloodwork 3 tooth extractions. one day pain med and rabbie shot. I paid the ABC 70 dollars for them to pay the balance of the spay, 261.27 My total payment, out of pocket will be 307.00 I have Pet plan insurance. From the 307 I have a 100 ded. Now pet plan will pay 80 percent of the balance of 200 which is 160, I think? So with the 100 ded and balance of what petplan doesn't pay, my total out of pocket costs will be 140.00 Thank goodness I have pet plan paying 160. So expensive up here. |

believe it or not sometimes those baby teeth are a pain to get out, especially the molar ones in the back. its not as simple as grab and pull. To the OP, i live in north jersey and paid about $300 for spay, rabies, and 6 teeth extractions. that was 3 years ago. |
I'm in the DFW area and that pricing sounds about right. We just had both of ours done on the same day. I learned that you really need to see exactly what they plan for to know if you're getting a good estimate or if it does not include things that can come up. I was going to have our male done at a low cost place but when I added up all the things I'd want done (like pre-op blood work) the pricing was pretty close and he wouldn't be put in a cage in line with 75 others for that day. Our vet was slightly higher than I was expecting until I looked line by line and had them go over it. They had changed pain meds for little ones to a med that allowed them to dose much more precisely for small dogs; plus included a week or 2 worth (which we only used about 3 days on our female as you could tell when she was uncomfortable) They also included ($40 for the 2) the collars which I took off when we got home expecting to put them back on and never did. Our male started to lick his incision site 1 time; I stopped him and he never did it again that I saw. The female couldn't really get to hers and I never saw her try. $40 out the door, but we have 2 cool soft cone head collars. Laser would have been $65 more but a longer healing time. They didnt' find any puppy teeth in either one until they got into their mouth when under, and it fell right out so I don't know what they would have charged. We also had them clean the males teeth which has some tarter started which was $105. They go under the gums just like a deep cleaning a people Dentist would. I could not beleive how fresh his breath was after that! :D So the prices sound fair. Yo can go cheaper, but it comes down to, is $100 (if that) worth the extra care you'll get for a little one? For a big dog I'd be more comfortable with a low cost solution as the risks are less; I think anyway. |
Englands prices are a little higher. Tias spay was 180 pounds! Im sure someone clever can convert it to dollars , but its rather high i think in comparison. No teeth extraction , no bloodwork , no hair and nails either ,but she did get one pain med , yippee lol |
i think that's super reasonable i hope all Sadie's teeth come out because i shudder to think of paying for it, her spay is included on our wellness plan, but those teeth will be costly. |
Baileys neuter alone was $310 and I was told each tooth would cost 25 a tooth if any needed to be removed. He never had any teeth pulled though. |
spay cost i too am in North Jersey. recently paid $920 for spay, meds, and NO teeth pulled. they quoted me $400-600 over the phone. i called a few days ahead to confirm appt. and the night before appt i got a call asking if i could reschedule. i could not as i took a vacation day to do it. the day i got there, it was almost $1k so they took out a few items. still ridiculous price. and the stitching was not very good. |
petsmart is $140 for 3 teeth pull only and that is with my 15% discount. microchip is $35. |
