Scratching-another new mom question Sorry about all the questions..I have never had a Yorkie before. Oliver has started scratching. I checked for fleas and I do not see any on him at all and he is clipped short. I think it might be his skin? Do I need to bathe him and how often? What do you think the scratching might be coming from? Debbie ( New Yorkie Mommy) |
Even if you don't see fleas there is still a chance it is a flea or tick bite. Just think of it this way, if we got bitten by a bug we itch long after the bug is gone. However, if you don't think it is the case, check with your vet with it possibly being caused due to allergies. |
Is there a flea preventative that is good for Yorkies? Frontline? |
It could be dry skin or an allergy. Most allergies are food related. Also dogs need Omega fatty acids in their diet. You can add the people gel caps in Super Omega 3 & 6. Just bite the tip and squeeze about 10 drops once daily. Dry skin can also be caused by a shampoo, or not rinsing it out well enough. I bathe my girls every 5 days when it's hot like this, but I dilute their shampoo way, way down. |

I will bath him then i will look how he react :) maybe is just bite form bug. |
Puppies may itch because they need a bath, because they were not rinsed well enough after their bath, did not agree with the shampoo or conditioner used, have a bit of an allergy or intolerance to something in their food, have an allergy to something in their environment (anything from carpet to plantlife), have a flea, tick or mosquito bite, or because they need groomed (puppy hair can mat and irritate them). These are just some ideas to consider -- I am sure there are others too. |

Juicy's skin is sometimes very dry which causes her to scratch sometimes. I notice that if I give her bath as soon as she starts scratching, its moistens and soothes her skin and she stops. |
Since I got him from someone else, I will give him a bath tonight. Does anyone have any recommendations for a shampoo to use that can be found at PetSmart or Petco? |
