Season changes .. Dry skin. Solutions Hello I have a 11 year old Yorkie and over the last year or so she developed dry skin when the weather starts getting cold. Last winter I took her to the vet and they gave her a steroid shot to calm the irritation. I really don't want to go that route again if I don't have to. I tried giving her a 1/4 of a 25mg Benadryl , Aveeno Oatmeal bath. powder. Its a temporary relief fer her and eventually returns. I'm seeking any advice on this matter so my girl can have a good night sleep. I thank you and my Yorkie thanks you |
Try coconut oil on her every day BEFORE her skin irritation crops up. It has a light scent is less oily than some and is a natural flea repellant! |
That is a great idea! Where do you get it and where do you put it? |
I have added human oral Aloe Vera Gel to their daily food. Page 467 of the Veterinary Herbal Medicine, By Susan G. Wynn, Barbara Fougère Talks about Aloe Vera Gel internal and external for allergies, etc… Veterinary herbal medicine - Google Books Here’s a good article as well: Household Plants That Heal Your Pet More info I found: This book says for tiny dogs give 2 teaspoons daily ?? To eliminate the problem you first have to find what's causing it. Medications are not the answer. Do you feed her dog food? It's a major contributor to skin and other major health problems. I do hope you find the problem. Poor little thing needs to feel nice and comfortable. |

Thank you for the links. Have you tried feeding aloe vera for skin problems? I'm a little worried about diarrhea as the Omega 3 is keeping her stools pretty soft. |

The Aloe Vera is a nature laxative. TJ goes 2x and Roxy will go 2 to 3x a day. The BioPectin helps to keep the stools formed ;) |

I know this may sound silly but I am gonna throw it out here... Have you tried an air Humidifier? |
