Food and treat questions What do you think about Nutro Ultra dry puppy food? I noticed on the food/diet sticky that Nutro Ultra Adult scored 104 A+, but I didn't see the puppy food listed. Rily seems to like it, however, he would rather eat the 7+ yrs. food we have to feed our sick schnauzer. The stinker, it is a nightmare keeping him out of her dish!!!! My second question is: I noticed a lot of YTers use cheerios for treats, so I was wondering if the baby snack puffs would be okay too. They are low in calories (72 for 25 cal.,) so I think they would be a great training treat. Gerber makes them and Wal-mart also has their version. Rily loves them too, but I don't want to give them to him if they are bad. We made a lot of mistakes with Fancy, the schnauzer, so I'm trying to be really careful with Rily. I would appreciate your input. |

Honey nut cheerios are a good one, my girls love them, but they love raw carrot pieces and peeled apple and fresh blanched frozen green beans right out of freezer just as much, and I figure those are probably healthier for their teeth than the cheerios. So, I've been using those instead. There is natural sugar in the veggies so I don't worry about glycemia issues. I do worry about too much cereal sugar on their teeth. And as far as teething, I figure they're getting more bang for the buck with the veggies than the cheerios on that front as well. jmho...ymmv |

puffs would probably be better since they are specifically made for them, but my point is that veggies are probably better than either puffs or cheerios, since they are maybe better for their teeth and healthier? At least I'm hoping so. I'm still looking for a carrot with a label on it...lol |
I've heard negative things on Nutro. We like Life's Abundance. |
I would never feed Nutro ANYTHING. We feed Nature's Variety and have had very good luck with it. We feed mostly the Nature's Variety Prairie (usually chicken & brown rice, but we do rotate some). It is a good all life stages food and the kibble size is pretty small so none of our dogs has any problems eating it. All 5 of our dogs love it and are going great on it. We occasionally use Cheerios for training treats for Maggie. |
