Newbie nedding help Had wee Jaz for five years now, he's always chokes and gags for breath when he gets excited. Been getting worse recently, took him to the vet and she tried a steroid injection to no avail. following week he was put under anasthetic and she did an endoscopy and x-rays on him. his tonsils were swollen, he needed a tooth out and the rest of his teeth were scaled. the x-ray showed a slightly enlarged pulmnary artery in his heart, but the specialist wasn't worried about it and he (jaz) was given antibiotics. he is still choking and gags when he gets excited...can anyone help please as i am an over cautions mummy and worry about my wee baby. :( |
oh, wow! don't know what to tell you. if you are really concerned, I would get a second opinion. Hope that Jaz is okay. |

I'm sorry I wish I could help. If the vet hasn't found anything I would do a second opinion just to be on the safe side. Do you think that it may be just a habit? No offense. |
Wow. :getwellso I don't like to diagnos problems, but did your Vet check for a Collasped Trachia? ( I think that's how it's spelt) I have read that the symptoms start around 5 -7. Do hope he gets better. |
How old is this baby? Welcome to YT! I hope he gets better real soon. |
Symptoms of Collapsing Trachea can begin at anytime. I would have that checked and be sure to never use a collar on this guy, they can aggravate the condition..so harnesses only. If the symptoms depart when you hold the back of your hand to his nose and force him to mouth breathe and calm down gently stroking his throat, it is a strong indication of a trachea issue. Do search here on this, there are many threads on this problem. |

Yes, welcome to YT! And, one of my 6 yr old girls does it too, especially when she gets excited. I'm guessing it is their tracheas, but I don't think it hurts them. I guess I should do more research on it. She always stops, and returns to normal, tho. |

Try gently rubbing his neck, up and down the throat...does that provoke a honking fit? If so, I would see another vet as CT would be the first thing that most people who know Yorkies would suspect. |
