Cosequin I give Sasha a joint supplement everyday just as a precaution as she's always jumping on and off the couches (which I try to prevent) and my worst fear is her getting LP. After doing some research on YT, I found that a lot of people recommend Cosequin. I want to give it to her in the chewable form and I already know that she won't take it in capsule form, even if I put some over her food, then she won't eat her food. I got a Dr. Foster & Smith ad in the mail a few weeks ago and noticed that they sell it. I plan on ordering a few things from them anyways so figured I'd might as well just order it from there. They have about 3 different types that are available in chewable form. Healthy joint care for Dogs: Cosequin® Bonelets® Hip & Joint Supplements at Drs. Foster & Smith Nutritional Supplements for Dogs: Cosequin Multi Nutritional Supplement at Drs. Foster & Smith Cosequin: Dog Healthy Joint Product Combines Glucosamine and Chondroitin Which one would you recommend and how much are yorkies supposed to get? I thought I read somewhere on here that 250mg was about right for yorkies, so I understand that I'd have to cut the chewable in half. I guess I'm just a little confused as to which one would be better. I appreciate all your opinions! |
Unfortunately, giving Cosequin isn't going to prevent luxating patellas. It can help with the arthritis associated with LP if your Yorkie has already been diagnosed with them, though. How about investing in steps for her to use to get on and off the furniture instead? |

I know it isn't going to prevent LP, but it's a joint supplement so if it's going to help her joints, then I'd like to try it. I have stairs in my bedroom for her to get on and off of my bed. My parents wouldn't want the extra furniture in the living room just for the couches. If something catches her eye or the doorbell rings, she wouldn't use the stairs anyways. Plus, our couches arn't that high off the ground. |

I was worried about her taking them at first because she hates medicine, but thankfully she thinks that her Consequin is a treat. I hope this helps :) |
is cosequin the same as glucosamine? i tried looking for cosequin at the pet store yesterday, and the employee told me that they didn't have cosequin, only glucosamine. he said they were the same thing. is this true? |

Yes they are almost the same, it has 500mg of glucosamine per tablet, plus other things. But glucosamine is the important one. You donn't have to buy this exact brand you can choose among many. Ask your vet the next time which is the one he recommends. |

Glucosamine is an ingredient in many joint supplements. A lot of us prefer the brand Cosequin because there are studies backing the company's claims and not all glucosamine sources are as good as the next, etc. We use Cosequin here. I prefer the capsules because some of their chewable products contain garlic. |
