Little bits of hot dog every once in a while are not terrible, but I would never make it a daily thing. Buy some wet dog food to mix in with the dry food! ;) If we eat chicken or turkey or some kind of meat for dinner, Jackson typically gets it mixed in with his dry food because he's spoiled! ;) Haha but it's not an every day occurrence. |
Recently I read that hot dogs, bologna, and ham can give a dog pancreatitis. Don't remember where I read this. |
Welcome to YT!! I wouldn't give my girls hot dogs...there's alot of junk in them (sorry all you hot dog eaters!!) I don't even eat hot dogs..You really don't want him to get used to table food...As one of the posters has said ...you don't want him to get pancreatitis...this is very painful for them and very costly for you. You really don't want a sick furbaby.. |
no hot dogs too high in fat and yorkies are prone to pancreatitis which i caused from high fatty foods |
No because hotdogs are indigestible and it's likely the reason he won't eat dog food...is because "people" food tastes better. |
No I wouldn't give hot dogs as part of his food. I do however use leftover hot dogs cut into small pieces for training treats and I think that's fine. Just not something you should use everyday. Just like us humans should only eat hot dogs occasionally. |
Sam gets lil bites of white turkey meat hot dogs. We dont eat regular hot dogs, always turkey ones. |
ok enough hot dog ... do you have any food brand recommendations? we tried cesar and chef michaels and grandmas puppy plate but he wont eat any of these... any suggestions ? sometimes he won't eat at all all day and he goes to his dog bowl and will sniff it and walk away... haha im a first dog owner.. |

We have been on the natural balance roll for awhile. They've been good recently as I restrict their bully sticks and have cut back on treats. They get finicky every couple of weeks but then I hold my ground and then they eat again. I do mix something in with it...veggies/sometimes some meat. Good luck! |
Does anyone have any suggestions of wet food too ? |
Try the natural balance rolls--they might work for you and they are a good quality dog food. |

for treats i cook an organic chicken breast i get it from costco and cook one every 3 days and chop up small and use that for treats - it is healthy and safe |
haha.... well... leo won't eat unless we give him something else mixed in with his dog food... hes even starting to slow down on eating the hot dog and will refuse to eat any sort of dog treats or dog food... spoiled dog.... the only minor health issue he has had was throwing up occasionally which lasted for about a week and he was throwing up bile because of him not eating. today he was crying to me, thinking he was hungry i tried a couple of treats we had bought and he wont eat any. so not only will he not eat his regular meals, no treats either. eating is a serious problem for him |
Have you tried cooking him plain ole' chicken and mixing it in with his food? Also, what treats are you giving him? Jackson's always been VERY particular with his treats but he loves the Wellness treats (they're soft little squares). He also loves these tiny little Bil Jac treats that aren't really "good" for them but they're so tiny and I use them for training. He loves them. |
I've seen Victoria on Animal Planet suggest it warmed. I'm guessing it shouldn't be the main source of food but as a warmed treat I think it would be okay. |
