Some vets prefer to keep them overnight because of their size. My Tessie stayed because she had a blood pocket ( common) that burst and she needed more stitches. I was happy that my vet would be there all night to watch her, but she is doing great. |
Laci got spayed at 6 months , she was really out of it when she got home ( I was a bit nervous) , my vets normally do keep them overnight, but since no one is there over night I chose to pick her up 20 minutes before they closed... She did great...she was 4.5 pds at the time of her spay....she didnt feel to much like eating but I did give her water by a syringe a couple times through the night ;) |
Spay question. I have just gotten my first yorkie and small dog ever. She's a little over a year old and not been spayed. I'm concerned about having it done. I don't want to breed her and I know she will be camping with us. She is now in "heat". What little bit of blood she is dropping isn't much, I could live with that. Do they gain weight like most dogs after the procedure? Thank you. Loretta |
We are glad it's done! I had my little 3.8 pound Sophie Lee spayed yesterday and she's still sleepy and right next to me. The pain medicine is keeping her comfortable. I knew it had to be done and now we can move forward. She did eat this morning and has been drinking water off and on. I'm trying keep her from licking her stitches. When she needed to be moved to go potty, I wrapped a fluffy towel around her so it didn't hurt her tummy. I'm glad to have 4 days off just to spend with her! It's amazing how much love and joy these wonderful little things bring to us! |
I'm so glad I found this thread. My vet told me to bring my puppy in to be spayed when she is 6 months old. MY Abby is 6 months old today! I haven't made an appointment yet but I know I have to, I think I will call next week. On her first puppy shots visit the vet told me she had a small hernia (common) and if it has not healed they will repair it when she is spayed. Has anyone else had a puppy with this condition and does it complicate the surgery/recovery much? She also has not had her dew claws removed and I haven't decided if I will add that to the surgery too. I have also read that if puppies haven't shed all their baby teeth the vet usually pulls them while they are asleep during spaying. This seems like A LOT at one time. I have read on another thread earlier that some people get a baby's onsie and put in on the puppy after spaying so the puppy won't bother the stitches. Has anyone tried that? |
Tessie was spayed on Friday and also had a baby tooth pulled. They like to do multiple things at one time so they don't have to put them to sleep for each surgery. The hernia repair while spaying is common. Tessie did great. She is 7 months old. Good Luck, the hardest part was leaving her. |
