Dog Food
 
I received a flyer in the mail today and from what I understand they have something called Yorkshire28 by Royal Canin which is dog food specifically for yorkies. I've been wanting to mix Jack's food up a bit (he's currently on Solid Gold) being that he tends to be a picky eater and will only take a few bites here and there throughout the day. From what I understand most yorkies do the same. If any of you have ever tried Royal Canin Yorkshire 28 I would love to hear how your babies reacted to it.

I got the same flyer in the mail the other day. I haven't tried it, but I'd be curious to see what others think of it, so I'm bumping this up for you.

I started Maddie on this and it made her itchy. I have read several others on here say they had the same problem with it. However, others use it and love it. I will say Maddie LOVED it. She gobbled it up, so it would probably appeal to picky eaters. I would have stuck with it if she hadn't started scratching all the time.:(

When I first got Sophie she was on this too. She was always itchy and had excees goopy eyes. I just figured it was her shampoo and the eyes were because ...well... yorkie's eye goop up? I switched her to another brand and it was miracle. No itchies and no more eye goop. I've now switched again and the eye goop is totally gone and the itchies haven't returned. However, Nancy1999 uses this for her Joey and she had the opposite reaction. When she tried took Joey off the food, his problems began. It's truly up to the dog, I feel. There are some great threads on here regarding food and grading of foods, etc. I'm sure a quick search in the thread section will give you some valuable information rather quickly. In case you're wondering....Sophie went from RC to TOTW and now to NB. NB seems to work the best for her.

My dog was on Royal Canin Yorkshire28 :)
He loved this food ! He was so excited when feeding time came and never left 1 bite in the bowl left :D

This is really good food, the coat will be very beautiful of it and the bite's in it are made for yorkie teeth :)

My Yorkie is not on it now cause he's litle bit too fat, he's on Royal Canin Mini Light now but when he will a bit thinner i will change to the RC Yorkiefood again :)

i was using RC indoor puppy for Sadie as free feed. she has been itching a lot so i've stopped free feeding and just upped her raw diet...she's a little less itchy already so i'm going to assume that even though she's really young, she was having a reaction to it.

i hope it works for your dogs though, i wanted to use it, but i just don't know if it's the RC or something else making her itch and it seems to be better since i stopped feeding RC

Is she allergic to the RC food?
Maybe she's just allergic for something that is indoor puppy food but is not in the yorkie food, have you had her tested for allergies ?

If a dog is itching a lot, it could be allergies.

She's only 9 weeks old, most puppies do not develop allergies until they are older. I learned this on YT. So it's most likely not the RC, however, she was itching more often when on free feed than she is now. I also may have started to pay a lot more attention to her itching habits to see if there was a problem with itching more than just a few times a day. She seems better so i'll just stop free feeding anyways, plus i don't like to feed kibble. i feed a raw diet for her primary meals, the kibble was just to give her something to have when i'm not home. she's eaten it so much though that i cut it back, she's getting 3-4 meals a day on raw diet so the free feed was just fattening her. i don't like any commercial dog foods. personally i don't believe in feeding dogs things that aren't good enough for people to eat, so she's home made fed a raw recipe i make myself.

as for itching, if i do notice a considerable amount, i will be calling the vet about it.

Maybe this should be a separate addition/thread...but it is in the diet/health section...so here goes: I've been feeding mine Royal Canine indoor puppy 27 and all is well, which I guess is the ultimate decision as to what food to feed them. Always wanting to do right by my Yorkie (Gracie) I'm always reading this and that about dogs/Yorkies. I recently read this article basically promoting (or not - maybe it is the best???) Eukanuba at the following website.
So here's my question: what's everyone's opinon of Eukanuba??? --- and after reading the article I'm thinking maybe I've been overthinking dog food.
(I'll figure out how to work the avatar,etc one of these days :))

Thank you everyone for your responses! One of you included an article that mentioned how too many veggies could interfere with the PH level in their urine. I had no idea! I've been giving Jack "Natural Choice" treats in carrot flavor and now I'm starting to wonder if I should stop giving him the carrot ones. I also give him the apple and blueberry ones as well. When it comes to Jack's diet I am very particular about what he eats. I want to make sure everything is as natural as possible. Thanks again for your input guys!

Isn't that weird, there's another thread today about Wellness and goopy eyes!

To the OP, we choose RC because Joey was so fussy with his food too, and he really acted like this food was great, he's doing well on it, and doesn't seem to have any allergies to the ingredients, but you just have to find a food that works for them. Just so we're clear....Sophie had goopy eyes and itching on RC. I then switched her to TOTW and no itchies and the eyes got better. Then Ivan came to our home and he was on NB, but it was close to TOTW so we fed both TOTW. Ivan developed goopy eyes. So we went then to Ivan's food, NB Venison and Sweet Potato and everyone is happy, not itching, and they eyes are clear. PHEW! :D

Oh so you think Ivan's problems were related to the food too? I'm glad you figured that out, with runny eyes, it can be so hard to find the culprit!

Yep, I do. I didn't think it was initially cause I thought for sure there was a bit of a problem upon his arrival. But sure as sugar...I switched back to the NB this week and he seems to be fine. So much for thinking I know, eh? LOL! :D

I feed Gizmo Lifes Abundance and he loves it and doesnt have any issues with it! I tried Reeses on the Royal Canin but he didnt like it at all....wouldnt eat a single bite of it. So it was never a winner in our house but Reeses was very picky. Gizmo can be but he really loves the Lifes Abundance and its a great food so I dont plan to change since he does so well on it!
