Dog Flu
 
Anyone know anything about that dog flu in Fairfax, VA? I was at Pet Supplies yesterday and someone mentioned it while I was in line. I also heard on yesterday's news that there were six cases, and one was fatal.

Hi Pam... is Twinkie your new puppy? She is very cute. I heard about the dog flu here. My friend mentioned it to me. I live in WV. Have you found anything out? Is Twinkie sick or your other dogs?? Do you have others... just assuming as I have so many!! I just assumed everyone has lots of dogs LOLOL Anyway I hope you can share more on this... :animal-pa

Last December, both my girls were diagnosed with the dog flu. I had one vomiting and one with diarrhea thoughout the night. In the morning when they were both lethargic and neither were interested in eating breakfast, I made an appointment with the vet. We waited in the car until they had a room for us. Both of the girls were bordering on a temperature with one at 102 and the other at 102.5.

They were prescribed Tamiflu, given substantial sub-Q fluids and an anti-nausea medication and were substantially better within 24 hours. I think they key is to identify and seek treatment early.

It is highly contagious among other dogs, so if they attend daycare, go to regular meet-ups or have been boarded, you'll want to be extra vigilant.

That was a very interesting an informative article. I live in CA, and have not heard anything about the dog flu in my state. Still it is vital to be aware of it's symtoms so it can be treated early.
my Suzi has been sick for the last couple of days. Just with a little runny stools . I have made rice for her, and have mixed small amounts of high protien canned food in with the rice. Just so she will eat. I am hoping she is at the end of whatever it is that she is sick with. My puppy is ok, but, has stepped in the runny stools> I've had to clean her paws several times . ANd been cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning . It has been not fun :( Sometimes Suzi makes it to the pads , sometimes not, even so I have to watch the puppy, she just does not know better not to step in it .:eek: Yuck . At least Suzi is not vomiting, which is a great sign.

We have had Twinkie for a while. She is 4 years old and 3 lbs. 4 oz. We also have Max who will be 4 in September. He is also 3 lbs. 8 oz. Both are the sweetest furbabies and very special to us.

Neither one is sick. I heard about the dog flu while at Pet Supplies Plus last week. No incidences here in Virginia Beach that I know of, but our local news mentioned it, as the cases were found in Northern Virginia.

I thought you were moving and that you sold your dogs? I remember reading this when you were looking to re-home Mocha.
