Giving Benadryl Before Frontline Plus I'm one of those people that dreads giving any kind of meds or putting chemicals on my baby....However, living in S. E. Texas is a challenge, to say the least, keeping fleas at bay...I don't have any fleas in my house, but I walk Apple in the neighborhood twice a day...Although, I did apply Apple a full dose of frontline plus 6 weeks ago (decided to stretch it out, instead of once a month), I wondered if it would be prudent to give her a dose of benadryl before applying frontline? I tried splitting the dose, twice a month, but it just didn't get it...Has anyone given benadryl, before frontline, or heard, from their vet, about doing this? Apple weighs about 4 1/2 lbs. and is 9 1/2 months old... |
Never I have nerver heard that , only before shots , that's new to me .huh! bark@ulater!!!! manina,miley:aimeeyork,max:animal36 |
I've never heard of giving Benadryl before applying Frontline either. I would skip that & apply Frontline only. I use it for my 4 ranging from 4~6 lbs & have had no problems. Been using Frontline Plus since it 1st came out. |
Well don't forget Benadryl is a chemical too, and nothing should be given without a specific reason for giving it. Why do you want to give the Benadryl? Antihistamines work by blocking the effects of histamine, the chemical responsible for many allergy symptoms, but if there are no symptoms, than no histamine is being produced, so there would be no need for an antihistamine. |
benadryl is a drug too so it shouldn't be given just because. if you applied the frontline earlier with no problems why would you want to do it with benadryl the next time? |

Has she had a reaction to it before? You mentioned you gave it to her before.. I wouldnt give her benadryl unless she had a reaction and only under your vets care... If she were allergic to frontline, i'd try something else :) |

My Vet ALWAYS gives benedryl to my Puppies BEFORE any shots because of their small size...it reduces any reactions.. |
