ROYAL CANIN for yorkies question I just want to know if anyone feeds this type of dog food to their yorkies. Does anyone know anything about this brand? Thanks! |
it contains corn and corn makes some yorkies itch. i would stay away from it. my dog was itching like CRAZY. |

I feed it to Joey, and we went through many different brands before I could find one he liked. He's been on it a couple years and is doing well, we recently tried switching to a higher rated brand, but he was allergic to one of it's ingredients, and produced excessive tearing with brown gunk in his eyes, so we switched back. Finding the right food and one they enjoy can be challenging. While some dogs are allergic to corn, the majority aren't, and corn mixed with other amino acids turns into a protein, but it should not be the primary source of protein, and with RC it isn't, chicken is the first ingredient. Also RC says that it contains a tartar inhibitor, and since tartar is such a huge problem with yorkies, this was of value to me. Joey's teeth, at three, are spanking white, but we do other things to aid with this, as well. The company itself has a good track record for safety, and this appeals to me. Joey's coat is very shinny, and he never gets any digestive upsets, vomiting, diarrhea, or gas, his poop is small and virtually has no odor. So while it isn't rated at the top, I have been very satisfied with the results. |
I feed it as well. No problems here. |
My dog got crazy itchies on this as well. I think if your dog is already doing well on it, no problem, but with so many other good foods out there, I would not recommend trying it. |
My 6 mo old Yorkie has been on it since we brought him home - he loves it and we've had no problems. He's on the RC mini puppy. |
I had Coral on taste of the wild because my big dogs eat it and love it, but she started needing to be hand fed and was barely eating, so i switched her cold turkey to the r.c mini puppy, and plan to get her the yorkie formula when she is 10 months. i have never seen her gobble he food up like she does the r.c. i guess you just have to figure out what is best for your baby. yes, there may e better foods out there, but there are also a lot worse! |
I feed Life's Abundance...its a great food! We love it! Well...Gizmo loves it! :p I dont eat it! :p |
I feed Royal Canin YT 28 to most of my crew and have been using it for years. A couple developed itches so they're on Merrick. Each dog is different. |
I've been feeding Max RC for almost 5 years, even though it's not the best quality food, it is the only one he would eat, we've tried many, and always come back to RC. |
Wow.... Ella has always itched and I just figured she just liked to itch, since she was on fleas/tick meds and stuff....... but now I know why she always itches!. She loooooves RC tho but I guess I should prolly try to switch. Thanks for this thread lol :) |
My baby is still on the puppy RC, but as soon as she hits 8 months I will be switching her to the Yorkie RC. I know they say there are better brands out there, but this is what the breeder sent me home with and she has never had problems. Good luck! |
i didn't know RC causes itching, that has to be why she's sometimes scratching i'll have to switch her off of it i think. |
