Is there a good "Soft" kibble for older Yorkie?? Anyone know of a good kibble that's "Soft" for my step-daugther's adorable older Yorkie? He's a sweetheart, but his teeth are getting bad & it's harder for him to chew the crunchy kibble varieties now. He was older when she adopted him. We all Love him dearly!! |
What about canned, would that work? Otherwise, she could moisten the kibble w/ water or low-salt chicken broth...it's just that she shouldn't leave it down there for a super long time bc of bacteria developing w/ the added moisture. :) |

I know there are soft type dog foods out there, but I don't know of any quality brands? |

Life's Abundance makes some good soft food...they actually have 2 flavors...one that they label as "Breakfast" and one as "Dinner". The breakfast is Turkey and Shrimp and the dinner is chicken and crab!! |
hmmm that's a good question. i was gonna suggest adding water but you can't do that if you want to leave it out. what about natural balance rolls? i wonder if they can be left out for a few hours. although i don't see how any dog can just leave those tasty bits in a bowl to munch throughout the day. mine will eat them all in one sitting. what about breaking up the kibble into smaller pieces? technically dogs don't need to chew their food. i know dogs that just swallow it whole  with no problems. however for this old guy grinding up the food a little bit to make it smaller might be easier for him and can be left out all day long. |
Thanks for all the replies everyone! Bless his heart....even very tiny hard kibbles are tough for him. He even turned down a Yorkie Yummy!:( I think just too hard for him to chew. I know there are these pouches with softer food for cats. Do they not make anything for dogs?? Canned food would not be an option to leave out during the day. Still searching.......... |
I wonder if he would eat really ground up kibble. So ground up that its fine (this is how I begin to wean puppies). I don't think there would be any pressure on his teeth. If you have a blender, stick a little bit of kibble in there and ground it up pretty good and see if he likes it. |
I would feed him the Only Natural Pet freeze dried Chicken and Veggie patties. You can crumble these up into very fine crumbs. My dogs love this food and it is healthy and organic. PM me if you need more info. I also feed mine instant oatmeal mixed with a jar of the beef or chicken baby food. :) |
i would suggest breaking the kibbles; don't grind them but smash them couple of times in the ziplock bag until they break into little piece; he might be able to eat that |
Has he had his teeth cleaned lately? Maybe he has some rotten ones it is painful for him to eat. He may need to have some removed. |
