Edie has Frito feet. I think it is just salt residue from their sweat. I believe dogs paw pads sweat, so the salt is what you are smelling.

and it is caused by yeast/bacteria, but not harmful necessarily. women have natural bacteria in their parts, so it's not strange to hear that dogs might have a natural bacteria on their feat that can cause yeast or prevent it??

I am sorry you don't have Fritos! You are missing out! We don't have a twist to go round here in the states, so perhaps it evens out?

I have actually always smelled my dogs feet and ears. I like the way they smell. My husband thinks I am a psycho, and once when he complained that my Maggie smelled like a dog of all things and I got upset...well. We will just say he hasn't repeated that! He now sleeps with Luna on his pillow and no complaints of any smells!

i've never heard of frito feet either?!?! i guess i'll be smelling Bailey's feet tongiht...LOL... never thought i'd say that... ;)

My friends golden who was a service dog has them.

My poor babies, when I started reading this thread, I started smelling the feet of my Yorkie who smells fine. Then went on to my Maltese, who was also fine. Then I went to my cocker spaniel. Poor Mazie she just kep backing away from me. I think I scared her when I started sniffing feet. I guess I'll have to wait a bit before I check out her paws for the Frito smell. My dogs think I'm crazy!

I am going to be smelling my little Cooper's feet as soon as I get him home! This is so funny. I have never heard of it before.:p

This makes sense to me cause their paw pads do sweat. I usually can't smell things very good because I have allergies so I'm going to have to have my hubby smell some feet. lol

I sniffed Zena's feet and did not smell anything in particular; certainly not like fritos or popcorn. She had a bath on saturday and perhaps that is why her feet don't smell.

I think you might call them corn crisps there, and they are tasty!! I wish my Husbands feets smelled like Frito's.........hahahaha (they DON'T!:eek:)

Interesting link, but she says, "I also have noticed that some dogs’ feet have a rather pungent odor. I’ve never heard of the term “Frito feet” before, but it is a sensible name for the syndrome if you ask me." I wouldn't describe the smell as pungent; in fact I love the smell. I wonder if she was talking about the same thing. I've never had a dog before that had this particular foot smell, and some who post here say they have had a breed of dog who shared the odor, but I forget which breed it was. I'm guessing this odor is more associated with Yorkies, or a few other breeds, rather than being associated with most breeds.
