Laser Spay? I guess I'm behind the times but has anyone had this procedure done on their furkids? A friend told me today about it and I'm thinking that for approx. $20 difference that it sounds safer than the traditional spay. She said that her little one was back to normal after 2 1/2 days and only a tiny insision. Input anyone? |

Laser surgery I had mine done by laser,it was so much easier, brought her home that night,a little drowsy, but the next day she was back to normal,no stitches to be remoed and no SCAR, it was so easy. |
I just had my little one spayed , she too was back to normal after a couple days , there is minimal scarring!;) |
Is it really just a $20 difference? Do all vets do this now? |
In our area tradition spay surgery is $120, for the same weight range the laser spay was $150- sorry about my bad math- $30 difference:rolleyes: I've been calling different clinics around me and there seems to be only one right now, but I actually had 1 Dr. call me back and question me about why I wanted to go with the laser. When I explained why he seemed very interested and said that he was going to do some checking into it. Maybe it will catch on and be more available all over (fingers crossed!) |
Just wanted to let you know I've had the same experience as everyone else. Stella was spayed with a laser almost two weeks ago. After a day she was anxious to be playing again, and I was surprised at how quickly she seemed to be healing. That was until five days after she got spayed when she ripped out her three stitches (through a onesie and a t-shirt...little stinker!). I was terrified when my fiancee told me that she had ripped them out, but I felt so much better when I looked at her incision and saw that it was already completely healed! It looks to me like she's going to have very little/if any scar. Also, when I brought her home, there was very little swelling or redness at the incision area. So overall, I'd definitely say it was worth it! |
I've been doing alot of research regarding laser spay, and it definitely seems to be the way to go...Only problem is I'm having a hard time finding a vet that does this, and I live in the Houston Area! I've found one clinic that is on the far north side of Houston, and I live about 20 miles south of the Houston area, so it would be over an hour to get there, and I'm concerned about the long drive back w/her and being far away from the dr. the next day...I did think, when the time comes, I could just stay in a hotel the first night...Anyone know a better way to find doctors that do this in Houston/Galveston area? |

I had all my animals (dogs and cats) spayed with a scalpel and all of they were back to normal the next day. morgan, my yorkie, was back to her regular piggy self that very night. I only gave her the pain meds one day and found she didn't need them. Also i can't see the scars on any of my pets. |

I am not familiar with the laser surgery but if you have a great vet it should all work out fine. There are pain meds for the disconfort such as RYMADIL or TORBUTROL ( it may be torbuterol... we say torb. ) you can manage the discomfort really good with these meds. Just wanted you to know that pain should not be a problem. Now, i have a question: How is the laser surgery performed? Do they remove uterus and ovaries ? Just wondering . XOXO |
Laser spay is done the same way as a regular spay, only using a laser. The laser cauterizes the blood vessels as it "burns" instead of cuts the skin and underlying areas. It is less invasive, less bleeding, and normally a faster healing time (because it is less invasive). Our clinic (that I manage) has had a laser for 8 years. We bought it mainly to do declaws on cats and we will not do them any other way which means owners have no choice for a declaw. We do charge extra for any other type of surgery as lasers are very, very expensive. That is why a lot of clinics don't have them yet. Hope this helps. |

So it could be that i am getting the "laser" treatment all along and never new. Our vet incisions are very tiny , heal fast , and have no stitches, mostly he does absorbable stitches and surgical glue. For emergency C-sections he does the staples but they heal soooo fast too. I will ask if i remember just to be more "up-to-date" .;) Thank you so very much !!!! XOXO |
When i got Rocky Nuetered back in December 06 i chose to go with Laser as well although it was $50 more i was all for it. Since the vet said it was less recovery time and the scar would be almost invisible depending on the healing of the dog. You cant even see the scar today |
