Just wondering if they should be getting something else besides their kibble. Suppliments or vitamins or what??

I only give cosequin for joint health and fish oil for the coat. I dont give vitamins because I read they dont need them if they have a balanced diet

People who home cook have to add supplements, but if you are buying a good quality kibble that shouldn't be necessary. At age three, I add Glyco Flex II, it has glucosamine and is similar to Cosequin, but I was told even fussy dogs will eat it willingly, not true so far, I have to put cheese on it. I also add mill flax seed which contains both the oil and the hull, and I think everyone should eat flax seed for a variety of reasons, but the oil is said to be good for the hair and heart, and the hull is good for intestinal health.

Oh ok thanks, I feed them health extension holistic kibble. It has nutradrops in it. I think this is ok. I'm going to get the Professional dog food that is low fat for them when I finish this bag. It has 5 stars and my Trix has pancreatitis and the other 2 are a little chubby. I also give them the yogurt drops for toddlers as snacks. They love them and they are all natural. They also love the sweet potato snacks. They are a bit expensive so I am going to try making them myself because they love those too.

I actually think being overweight is the number one bad thing you can do, I would rather see someone feeding a lower quality dog food, then seeing a dog be overweight. Even a little extra weight carries health risks. After a trick training class where Joey gained too much weight with all the treats I gave him, and vet said I should put him on a diet. He suggested reducing food by 1/3 and adding green beans to his diet to help fill him up. He loves the frozen green beans (thawed) and they contain few calories, and I use these for treats, instead of the higher calorie treats he was getting. Many of the dog treats are made for much bigger dogs, that are extremely active, and can use the extra calories, but if your Yorkies are like mine and sleep most of the day, finding a lower calorie treat can be helpful. So even a nutritious treat can be bad for them, if it is high in calories. I'm not sure what kind of Yogurt drops you use, but for many, the number one ingredient is sugar, and while dogs (and people) love it, I think it should be avoided, especially for dogs.

You know you are right I really didn't think about the sugar only the fact that they were yogurt. I definatly will get the green beans. They will love them. I will eat the yogurt drops :D yes they do sleep alot. They are just a bit over weight. Not Trixie but Coco and Pebbles are a little. Going shopping later will definatly get the beans.

In order to know "exactly" what goes into the making of commercial pet food, and how it's possible not to completely destroy any vitamins "supposedly" added in those boiling vats, I suggest you try and get the company that makes the pet food your using to let you have a tour of the rendering plant. If it's legit, then they have nothing to hide.

Vitamins that are not heat tolerant are sprayed on after cooking.

Anyway...thank you for the suggestion of the beans. I bought them today and my babies love them. I gave it to them with their dinner. They gobbled it up. I feel better knowing that they are getting veggies. I know that they love broccoli. I will mix and match each week or so. They will get a variety of veggies. Thanks again.
