Lunch Meat? Is it okay to give a Yorkie puppy that will not eat anything lunch meat? My dad gave it to her because she has not eaten in three days and she gobbled it up. |
I would not give a puppy or dog lunch meat as it is high is sodium and not real good for them and can upset their tummies. I know how hard it is when they won't eat, my Cali was like that. She would eat Cesars wet food, which isn't good but I needed to gether to eat. What have you tried feeding her? If it is hard food try a little canned food or wetting the hard food. If all else fails you can get jars of baby food and mix it with her food, or cottage cheese. Other may have some other tips for you. Are you giving her nutrical to keep her sugar levels up? |
Yes, please no lunch meat, hot dog, spam, whatever. Too much salt and fat! If she really is not eating dog food, like what Patti said, cottage cheese, hard boiled egg white, plain skinless boiled chicken, I don't think there is a dog on earth that will refuse to eat that. If she doesn't eat that, maybe there is something wrong??? Hope not. If nothing is wrong, and you only feed like this, your pup will be very spoiled... not to say that all YT pups are not spoiled, but you k now what I mean, I hope  |
Lunch meat bad.... Quote:
For quick fixes maybe try things like, canned puppy food like "Halo" brand (excellent quality). Or Canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) or boiled boneless skinless chicken breast in tiny pieces. Carrots, blueberries, skinless zucchini, skinless (no seeds) apples are also ok for dogs. I think sometimes when dogs don't eat it can be because they are constipated. The pumpkin will be really good for that. Again, it could be the food. Yorkies are known to be picky eaters from what I gather...... Well, good luck. I'm sorry this is probably really stressfull for you. Let me know how it goes. Keep searching Yorkie Talk for more imput.....:( |
Just want to give another vote to not use the lunch meat! Everyone else has already give excellent advice as to other options. Don't cave in and give something that could cause health problems now or down the line. BTW I have read many threads where people said their dog would not eat at all, had not eaten for days, would starve if they did not give something in specific. But, I have never read even one post where anyone's dog really did die from starvation when they were being offered good quality dog food. I had a few of mine hold out too, but they will all eventually eat. |
The vet put her on Science Diet puppy she ate it good for 3 days then completely stopped, wont touch it, she still is not eating. We have tried the wet and dry in it. Here is a list of everything we have tried: Nutro, Halo, Purina Little Bites, Little Cesaers, Science Diet. She does like boiled chicken. This morning before I read this though I tried to give her a piece of the chicken and she wouldn't touch it. She does take NutriCal 3 times a day because she has been diagnosed with Chronic Hypoglycemia. The vet said something about trying a different food she has avaible so my dad is going to get that today. |
How old is she? What happens with the "chronic hypoglycemia"? If she has that, I'd be prone to feed a high protein diet, not a high carb diet. Something like Orijen, Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Solid Gold Barking at The Moon. |
She throws up a lot, can barely keep food down, then her sugar plummits and we have to take her to the vet for ivs. My dad called the vet today she told him to give her lean hamburger and boiled chicken to see if she will eat. She ate the burger up at their house but threw up a hour later. She has been pretty puney today. I am frying her up some more right now to see if she will eat. |
Plain Baked Yam Fries are good too.... I have just discovered that unseasoned, oil free yam fries baked in the oven are a puppy pleaser too. I baked them for about 10 mins on the first side and 10 mins on the other at about 400 degrees and once they cooled off, Dooie could not get enough of them. Yams are supposed to be good for their tummies I guess. Yams are really inexpensive too I discovered. Anyways, you could try those?? |

Lean, white meat chicken with no skin or fat is okay. Have you tried force feeding? Any talk of using feeding tubes or IV? |

Maybe I missed something. She can't even hold down the food she does eat? |
