Vaccine boosters? Suzi is now 17months old, and I keep getting in the mail from the vet's office about her needing more vaccines ? i know that the rabies shot is good for 3years, however is it necessary for boosters to be given to an adult caanine? Are most of these virus's seen in puppies? Do all dogs need to be protected once again? Suzi typically stays inside, however, after our other puppy is completely vaccinated we are going to take them both on walks . |
She probably got her puppy vaccines around 8wks-6mths old (rabies is sometimes held off til 6 mths for some) - and then, she would need her 1 year boosters. Did she get those? |
No she has not recieved her one yr boosters . She needs them, just not the rabies, correct? Just the reg. Parvo, Distemper, the ones she had as a pup , right? |

Rotating schedule My vet rotates the vaccine my dog gets each year (not just the rabies), because he says they don't have to be given every year, and there is less stress to get just one at a time. She has an annual checkup, and gets one shot (different from year to year). If I remember right. |
Of course, don't get the rabies on the same day as the other shots. :) |

I'll Suzi needs is a booster for the Distemper Parvo > What I've heard was that the rabies vaccine is the excat same as the 3 yr shot , their is NO difference !!! Ann or somebody else correct me if I am wrong about this? She has aready had a rabies vaccine last yr? therefore is protected for anther 2 yrs ? |

I concur with Ann. Rabies and DHP need to be given as pup shots and then as one year boosters. After that the schedule can be changed, so you don't have to do them yearly. A one year rabies booster is required by law in most or all states that let you give it every three years. As far as lifetime immunity and/or giving vaccines every three years, there are so many protocols out there, it is difficult to decide. All I would say is if DHP is given every year or every other year, it is probably way too much. |
