Retained deciduous teeth Has anybody yorkie ever had this? What did you do about it? Is it genitic? How much did it cost to remove the extra teeth? I just got back from my FL trip yesterday night. Went to go pick her up at the BF's house and decided to give her a full grooming since I've been gone for 10 days without her. :( I started for some reason decided to look at her teeth and saw four little teeth on top. . which is normal. I looked behind it to make sure it wasn't yellow or anything and I saw that there was another set of four teeth! OMG . How can I be soooo blind?! How come I never caught this before? I'm so sad now! I have to take her to the vet asap to get it removed. I'm going to sched an appointment tomorrow for her to see her new vet. She seems fine and everything. It never seem to bother her. She still nibbles on my fingers and lick here and there but I never thought anything of her cause it was kinda like..thats her thing. I freaked out and started to look online and came across that is it Retained deciduous teeth. |
My vet will pull them when I get Madison spayed. It will cost $5 per tooth. |
It is not unusual for a Yorkie to retain these teeth and in fact, is more the norm. Most people remove the extra teeth when they have their baby spayed or neutered so the dog is not put under twice. |
thanks! What if I'm not planning to get her spayed....not yet at least. I've been reading stories about it and as or right now if not forever. I don't want her spayed. She's my only furbaby I think she should be fine. But I do want her teeth to be fixed asap. Is there going to be any risks? |
I just had Coco and Pebbles teeth removed about 2 weeks ago. My vet charges $10 per tooth plus anesthesia and pain meds. Cost me about $120 or so for each baby. |
thanks. thats not a bad price at all. I was thinking well over the hundreds. Maybe I'm just freaking out! How old are your babies? Libbie is 6 months going on 7. |
I just asked the same question in the Health & Diet section! Fergus seems to have a whole row on top and a few canines left over! My vet didn't pull them during his neuter because he was only 4.5 months old, and felt they needed more time to come together on their own. I hate that I am going to have to put him under again! And my vet is a total tooth nazi! probably her way of making sure he gets a dental at 1 year! |
My Coco is 2 and my Pebbles is 1. These teeth were not double when they were Spayed/Neutered. I would have done it then because I hate to put them under anesthesia again. |
Elsy just had her dental cleaning and had six baby teeth pulled. It cost $218.00 for everything. I think they like to wait until they are 1 yr to see if they come out on their own. I've only had her for 2 months and she really needed a cleaning and since she is 15 mos old they pulled the baby ones too.:) |
Well my moms yorkie Cupcake is 4 years old and my mom had made an appointement witht he vet to get her double teeth removed and for some odd reason one fell out. So weird at 4 years of age her extra tooth fell out on its own. So now she only has one more to remove. But i understand why the vet would want to wait as well. My Bailey has 2 sets of extra teeth at 7 months but i have a feeling they won always be there. Goodluck with everything and I don;t think she is in pain or anything or else you would see a lack of eating and playing , so your furbaby is ifne :) |
Stella got spayed today (at 6 months) and they took out her last 3 baby teeth (one of her bottom K9s fell out last night when we were playing fetch). They charged 9 a tooth, but I think it was about 120 for the anesthesia and a few more for pain meds, etc. |

Hmm, that sounds very cheap if they are using general anesthesia, placing an IV and doing pre-op blood work. I would seriously consider having her spayed. If she isn't, she will have a 26% chance of getting mammary cancer. If she is spayed before her first heat, she will have less than a 0.5% chance. Pyometra is not uncommon in unspayed females and the treatment of choice is an emergency spay which is quite a bit more dangerous with a raging infection going on. So just some things to think about... |
