need to gain weight :)My yorkie, Marley, has had a bad start in life, he had seizures all the time, we spent thousands of $$$ at wonderful UC Davis California and no answers, so I started to make my own food with chicken, rice, peas and carrots, he loves it but he doesn't seem to gain any weight. Hes almost a year old now and only weight 4 to 5 lbs. he used to weigh 6lbs. his back is very boney. he seems very active, and seizures have almost all gone. I'm affraid to try any thing new. Any ideas? Hes just to skinny. |
Can he have fats? What about more dense calorie items like Peanut Butter, cheese (not too much, obviously), a fish oil supplement on his food. Are you balancing his homemade diet? The cal-phos ratio and everything? |
Shoot send him to my house....I can fatten anyone up! :p But really...is he eating as much as he wants? Maybe he just needs more food. Lean meats are always a hit with my kidz. |
I need to check to see if he can have fats, someone suggested cottage cheese, so i tried some yesterday, we'll see. I'll keep you posted, and thank you for your suggestions. I'm afraid to let him eat as much as he wants cause hes a pig! I'm afraid he'll get sick. I give him about 3/4 cup or so 2 X a day..:animal36 |
My pup is about 4.5 - 5 lbs. He seams a little skinny but i read that is how they are supposed to be. If you can feel a layer of fat it means they are overweight, so it said. If you look at the charts the males are supposed to be between 4 lbs - 7.5 lbs. I am sure he is fine. |
Thanks for the happy thoughts, I feel he's ok but you can feel every back bone and rib!:) |
Marly is the same. I was really worried at first but then i read that passage in a book and was relieved! He is just not a big eater, but he's also a little guy. I think we both wound up with the runts? Which is fine:) |
