Yorkie Puppy food proportions change during growth phases? My 11 week old Yorkie seems to be going through eating phases. A week ago he was eating 1/8th cup of soaked food. Today and for the last 4 days he's been eating half as much, and prefers his food dry. Sometimes he gets fussy and doesn't want to eat the food so I leave it out for him for a few hours until he finishes eating it. His energy level has been awesome and normal. Looks happy, extremely, playful, and his poo is normal and more solid than it was a week ago. Is this normal? I've heard that when they are developing, they tend to eat more. Is this true? Is this normal? He seems healthy and pees about 5-6 times a day and poops twice a day. |
Prevent from chewing up pee-pad Please help |
its totally normal for puppies to go through stages. I brought morgan home at 13 wees and started feeding her breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Only a few days later she stopped eating her lunch all together and only wanted breakfast and dinner. She also didn't want it moistened anymore. She liked the crunchy bits. So that's what i fed her. As long as your puppy IS eating at least twice a day and is acting completely normal otherwise i wouldn't worry about. Maybe it will only last a few days, and maybe he'll want to eat even more in a few weeks. Just keep an eye on his behavior and weight. Make sure he's not losing weight or becoming sluggish with the lower food intake. |

If he starts becoming lethargic and decrease his eating again, I'm going to take him to the vet |

I think they do go through stages, especially when they start teething. Stella devoured every ounce of dry food I'd give her for breakfast, lunch and dinner between about 3 1/2 to 5 months. Once she started losing lots of teeth, I think her mouth was sore so she didn't want to eat anymore and I had to wet her food and hand feed her, otherwise she wouldn't eat. Now she's getting better, and starting to eat more like she did before. So I wouldn't worry, just make sure they eat something. I also found that giving her a big ice cube to play with before meal time helped get her more hungry because I think it numbed her mouth a bit so it didn't hurt to chew. (Now she runs to the kitchen as fast as she can whenever she hears the ice dispenser...she LOVES her ice!) |
Kimbo is 13 weeks old and very playful as well. He takes 1/8 cup of Innova Puppy food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I stopped soaking his food @ 10.5 weeks. He won't eat it like that anymore. He loves to crunch his big boy kibble! |
