Itchy dog My 3 year old has recently been itching and scratching all the time. His skin appears to be in good condition so I'm thinking he allergic to something. The only food he likes to eat is the Beneful. I see that it has all of the things that apparently Yorkies can be allergic too. So I'm gonna try him on some of the foods I've seen listed here. In the meantime, I see that several people use Benedryl. Can you please let me know if this is the regular people Benedryl and what portion of that pill you give -- a 1/4 maybe. Thanks for any info and help. |
A friend of mine uses the Benadryl dissolving strips for her dogs rather than the tablets. I'm not sure of the dosage, especially in such small dogs but the people Benadryl is safe. If you notice your baby's skin start to look red or rashy I recommend taking the doggy to the vet. My Sophie is currently on antibiotics for a skin infection that she acquired after about 3 weeks of serious scratching. |
1mg per pound so i have used the 25mg tablet and my girl was 6.7lbs and did 1/4 tab but here is he deal benedryl can amp up some dogs and make some dogs drowsy. It amped mine up -- what happened right before the itching started? How long have you fed beneful? I have dealth with allergies for 5 years now. If you think it is food do natural balance venison and sweet potato 12 weeks no treats - NOTHING but kibble. |
Another food that is great for Allergies is California Natural, made by Natura. THis is a limited ingredient food with only 4 ingredients. Maddie does great with it and no more itchies!:D |
I use children's benadryl-dye and alcohol free. My dogs don't mind the taste too much and it works quicker than the pill does. Watch giving it too often though, our vet warned it can upset their stomachs. With the liquid, it is easier to be exact with the dosage as well. My baby gets VERY tired with the normal dose. |
