I am so very very very scard...pancreatitis!! Sebastian has pancreatitis. They gave him fluids subQ about 2 hours ago now. And we came home with 3 bottles of meds. He was not right this morning, he had Diarrhea no vomiting that I know. Earlier this week he look like he wanted to vomit but nothing came out....I didn't know hwe was sick. Anyways.... He just doesn't want to do anything but lay in his bed. Is this normal for this type of illness. When will he perk up? Is he going to be OK? I started reading on here about pancreatitis and other places and this is scary dangerous stuff. I am in tears with fear!!!... I have been so busy the last two days I had not noticed if he ate cause I free feed. Oh God please *pray* he gets through this!!! :( This is painful stuff huh? He grunts if I dare rub his tummy. Anyways I'll let you all know something in a few days. I am sooooo glad I took him to the Dr. I don't want to lose my buddy! :( bye yall! |
mine had this too :( my recommendation is they have to be on fluids for 72hrs at a facility and no food or meds through mouth as it can be a problem as the vet did same for us and my boy relapsed and almost died. I would call an internal medicine specialist and discuss 24 hr care for 72hrs as any food or meds through mouth can be painful and upsetting to system - it is very painful as well so they need pain meds and why your baby is in pain when you touch the belly |
I think if he is this sick, being on a IV at a veterinary hospital is a good idea. Not sure that giving anything by mouth is a good idea at all...not even water. |
I am so sorry, just really watch him for any signs of worsening and get him in. I am surprised they didn't keep him in on IV's. |
Hello Everyone!!!! I took him out to potty a little bit ago...he jumped up onto the step. I was like huh? But that didn't last. He didn't do anything but pee that time. No diarrhea in the last oh I guess 4 hours. We do have emergency vets in the city and if he gets worse before in the morning I will take him in if not I am going to return to our reg vet in the morning. Right now he is still real tired. Thanks for all the advise and prayers!!! Oh and he does have pain meds, nausea meds and flagial (sp). |

Pancreatitis (Inflammation) in Dogs please tell me they did not give you hill's i/d food :( that made my dog sicker and it is pork |
No food was offered by my vet and no food is being giving. He is a bit better this morning. Thanks for your prayers and advise I am looking online now to see if we have a veterinary of internal medicine in the city. |
Hello I am feeling more hopeful now...I did not find a specialist so I called my vet to voice my fears...by the way they are a hospital too. He asked me ??'s like look at his gums and I said they are pink...they were not yesterday. He sees this around the holidays a lot he said. Ham is one of the biggest reasons for pancreatitis, which I gave to all 3 a couple of different times this week cause I was very busy and did not see which ones had eaten. Anyways...Just know that my vet is a very smart vet. I trust him to do whats best. Thanks! |
Glad you feel more hopeful, Yes ham s very bad for them. Cali has so many tummy problems that I decided that none of then would ever get people food again. Roxie and Pixie have never had it so they don't even beg or try to see what we are eating. Cali who did have chicken and hamburger when she was sick, begs for people food all the time. I hope your baby continues to improve and gets back to normal real soon. |
Thank you Patti No more people food here! This was too painful for him and too scarry for me. He is even more improved as I type...he is beside me on a mat I am watching him diligently and will continue till we are out of the woods and in the city! LOL! |
Joy! Joy! Joy! It's a wonderful day in the neighbor hood. Bastie is up running around as if he had never been sick. he so thin. boy this can take a tole on them in a hurry! Thank you Jesus!!! and I thank all you for praying! |
That's great news!!! Nothing like seeing them back to normal to make your day!! |
great news so you dodged a bullet like i did so no fatty foods and no treats - if you want to treat get organic chicken from costco and bake every 3 days a chicken breast and chop it up - and the one that had pancreatitis you can just give kibble is what i recommend for 6 mos as it is real easy to relapse right after the first bout |
Baron was just diagnosed with Pancreatitis on Tuesday. He is on boiled chicken with white rice or white pasta. He was all hunched up and shreiking in pain when Rudy's Mom Dawn got us to the vets. Thank God for her help. He is on Gabapentin in a beef flavored liquid. 1ML every 8 hours. He goes back for Bloodwork re-check in 10 days. Then we go from there. He has me so worried!!!!:( |

Update! Here is an update. Sebastian is do so well...Sunday evening Bastin passed something long in his now firm poop. I wont give the details but I took a look at it and it was like paper of some sort. It looked like a "toilet paper" holder type. I am thinking, it was NOT pancreatitis after all!! and that my little one had eaten something that was hurting his colon. I am still giving his meds though just in case. And yes the vet did feel his gut for any foreign objects. I though you all might want to know. Thanks for being there! |
When we found out Zig had pancreatis she had already lost weight before the vomiting and diarrea started. They did not keep her in the hos. on fluids either we feed her the hills i/d diet the vet prescribes in small doses 4 times a day along with yogurt once a day. It took couple weeks but she is well and she loves that food and it did not make her sicker. |

Barons stools are still loose and mucusy. He is still on the meds and the boiled chicken. I stopped the white rice and pasta as he was not too crazy about it. He's running and playing more with the other 2 dogs. But, once he has his meds he sleeps for 3-4 hours. I toook him out for a short walk and he really enjoyed it. He tried to eat an 11 weeks old female Merlequin Great Dane named Storm. She was shaking so much...That's the first sign of the old in your face Baron!! He has really had me worried! He's had problems with his bowels since I got him. My old Vet never diagnosed him. The new Vet was really on the ball. It took us 3 hours for all the tests But, I am seeing such an improvement, I know he got it right!! We go back in 2 weeks for bloodwork and see if he's improving. I feed him the Wellness Super 5 mix and the Vet said that would be fine to go back to. Thanks so much for asking how Baron was....I just don't know what I'd do if something happened to him, I love him so much!!! :) |
Oh that is good news!!! I know how happy we feel when we see just a small improvement. I pray he continues......Amen! My baby Sophie was always having looses stools, every time I turned around. So one day I added some bran (All-Bran) to her daily food, just a few sticks (6 or so) and wow did she love it. It helped clear her bowels right up and it's been 5 months since she hasn't had a problem. Oh and I only did that for about 3 days. I hope this helps you in some way. However I would not do this right now without the Dr's advise. I would not want to hurt the little one more than he already is. I hurt too when mine was in so much pain. |
I hope Sebastian is still doing well and continues to improve.:) I will keep him in my prayers. |
Thanks AbbysMom actually he seemed a little less frisky today but ate well and all else was fine. My pups have always had spunkier days and then some days less spunky...still I am keeping my eye on him. :animal36 Thanks! |
Buster Boy My Buster has been sick for over a week. It started with yellow vomit and water diarrhea. I couldn't, and still cannot, get him to eat. He is 6 years old and 8 pounds. I am on Disability so i could only afford to take him for an office visit. They wanted to do blood tests but that was $125.00 up front. The doctor gave him a shot for nausea and prescribed Flagyl Metronifazole 250 mg. i have been getting that down him twice a day for 4 days now. He is still listless and i use a syringe to get water with Pedialyte down him. I am so scared because i may lose my Buster because i cannot afford to get the proper tests. Can anyone tell me if i gave him the liquid food for older adults, that it would help. Please pray for my little boy. |
