Iams Healthy Naturals Puppy Premium Food? Good or Bad?
 
Hey guys I'm getting ready to go get Karlee in just a few mins. but before I do I wanted to ask a quick question about the food Karlee has been eating and if you all know the scores of it? Its Iams Healthy Naturals Puppy Premium...I went and got her some food this morning but know I have to make a easy transition little by little and if this food is not up to par I want to rush the transition if I can but if its okay and she does good on it should I just keep her on it? Just wondered? I looked at the chart and was having issues figuring out how to score it. I also saw a site that says it was a 97 I think was the scoring? But it did not specifically say "puppy preimum" so not sure its the same exact kind Karlee has been eating.

All I can do is offer my honest opinion, which is DO NOT FEED ANY IAMS FOOD!!! It has horrible ingredients and ..... well, just don't get me started.

I have to agree this food is not good, at all. The first ingredient is chicken, thats good. However, chicken by-product meal is next. This is horrible stuff to feed your furbaby.:eek: I would avoid this food.
Of course before this site, I too thought Iams was good food.:rolleyes:

:thumbdown for Iams. I would definitely not keep her on it. Foods I would recommend are Orijen and EVO.

EVO is too high in protien for little pups. I would definitly switch to a better food, there are lots of premuim foods out there that have puppy formulas and some brands like taste of the wild offer an all stages food. Do lots of research and please make sure that whatever food you decide on make the switch slowly, over a 7 to 10 day period so your pup wont end up with stomach issues. Also dont be surprised if your pup wont touch the new food for awhile, if she was being fed a certain kind she may take awhile to like the taste of the new food, just keep trying. :).. you may have to try a few different brands before you find one she will eat willingly. You can contact a few companies and ask them to send you free samples, so that way you dont pay a ton of money on food she wont eat.

Puppies actually need MORE protein than adult dogs, generally, so I don't think this would be an issue.
But I agree with everything else you said.

Ive seen it posted on hear alot that EVO is not good for puppies and from my own experince with higher protein foods I wouldnt feed my puppy EVO..
but to each is own.. :animal36

High protein diets are ideal for dogs, including puppies. Dogs are carnivores, so they are designed to digest high amounts of meat, which is protein, and have no nutritional need for grains. For this reason, a high protein diet provides optimal nutrition.
Unless your dog has liver, pancreas or kidney disease, too much protein isn't an issue.

TOTW, as you mentioned is a nice food. It also seems to be a food even picky eaters love!! :thumbup: Getting samples is definitely the way to go. :) A great money saver there.
