Best Training Treats Open to all advice here: 1. what do you think of cheerios as training treats? 2. what do you use? |
I use Wellness treats and real pieces of chicken, hot dog, and steak and if you warm up the meat in the microwave for 5 seconds it makes it even better! my furbaby will do anything for real meat:D |
Cheerios are great. Jackson loves the Wellness puppy treats, they're soft and in a little square, but I'd usually break the square in half or in thirds for training. Also, they're not really healthy at all, but Bil Jac has a little purple bag of treats with a Yorkie on the front of the bag and Jackson lovesss those things. They're very very tiny so they work perfect. And yes, real meat such as chicken always works great. |
I used cheerios. They did work for Nolee! |
Treats I also use the Lil Jacs--by Bil Jacs. Sprocket LOVES them. When he uses he pee pad he will go and sit by the shelf that the treats are on and wait for me with his "hurry up" mommy look on his face. Totally adorable!!! |
Ditto on the Cheerios here but I've also used the Natural Balance logs and really cut that up into small training pieces and they love that as well.:D I try to keep it healthy since when training you sometimes need a lot of yummy treats!! |
Cheerios are ok, but they are wheat which isn't the best for dogs. Scruffs will do anything for boiled chicken. Just buy a huge pack from costco and freeze them, and then boil them when you need (takes 5-7 mins). I chop them up into Yorkie Yummies sized pieces and then put them in a baggy and store in the fridge. They are especially good for house training. Scruffs hasn't had one accident since I started using chicken! Also good for agility and off leash training! I also use Zuke's. I suggest the flat ones and cutting them into small pieces. The small dog treats of Zuke's are just too big for training and not as chewy as the others. Yorkie Yummies are also good, but my dog would choose chicken or zuke's over them. He used to be obsessed with Yorkie Yummies, now he hardly eats them. I don't know why! |
I love the Yorkie Yummies that yt member chattiesmom sells - they are tiny so consuming too many is not a worry, they have a cool crunchie sound :D |

Scooter never bonded with cheerios. He loves Wellness Treats. He also gets chicken from Kona's Chips (made in the US - Home | Kona's Chips) which he LOVES. I also buy Natural Balance Dog Food Rolls. We only use these with training so it is extra special to him. If you go to buy these or a brand like it, read the label carefully....there are two kinds with several flavors. I buy the dog food kind but you can also find the treat kind. The nutrition is better in the dog food kind. The NB kind is found in the pet food area, not the treat section and is not refrigerated at the store. Once you cut it, then you put it in our fridge. I cut them into little bits (like the yorkie yummies) and they work great. He knows when the roll comes out it is time to do tricks or go to class. Good luck! |
