I have questions... And hoping to get some help... I have a 9 month old female who weights 2.5lbs. I recently just acquired her from a woman who cannot take care of her anymore. The lady I got her from has been feeding her eukanuba and royal canin. Right now she is eating Royal Canin since she has one bag left from her original owner. She free feed her because she's so tiny. I am doing what her original owner has been doing. She has been with me for almost two weeks now. Here in my home, she barely eats and I am in constant worry she might develop hypoglycemia. What can I do??? I tried mixing her food with wet and warm it up, she still doesn't eat. I tried mixing it with water, still no luck... I am now getting worried. Please help... |
Try mixing just a little bit of scrambled egg in it w/breakfast...At supper, I use things like a few teaspoons of water out of a can of organic chicken...Apple just seems to like a little added taste to the dry food...I feed Innova dry puppy...I've heard, on here, that Eukanuba is not the best, but the other one, I think, is o.k... |
Thank you so much!!! I will try that starting later on tonight. |
You could maybe try changing her food up. She could be bored with it. There are some better quality foods out there than both of those foods listed. If not, sometimes a little cottage cheese mixed in can do the trick. I've also heard of members sprinkling Parmesan cheese over the kibble to entice them a little bit. Even a little bit of boiled chicken or some rice may help. |
How much does she actually eat? A 2.5 pound dog does not consume a great deal of food....she's small...her tummy is small. I free feed four...they will eat when they are hungry. At her age and size a hypo episode isn't likely. |
I free feed her as well. Since that's what shes used to. I put 1/4 cup of food and she never finished it. All in one day, still has some left over. Sometimes, it doens't look touched at all. She eats table scraps though. She loves them. Her old owner is an elderly and used to giving her table scraps all the time. I tried not to. I want her to eat her own food but I am worried. So, sometimes, I give her a little... But not all the time. She's 9 mos and weights 2 lbs and 8 oz... So, hypo will not be possible? I shouldn't worry? |

As they age and grow so do hypo concerns. Some tinies never even have hypo issues period. I would switch to a higher quality kibble. Mine love taste of the wild...love it. |
