Help With Teeth Brushing Tonight I purchased a toothbrush kit for my furbaby and tried to brush his teeth it was like wrestling an alligator Are there any tips that you guys have to make it easier? Will he ever get use to it? |
I really need help with this anyone?? |
I had to start mine out using a Q-Tip swab (and sometimes my finger!) and toothpaste and a ton of patience. Like anything else it just takes them time to get used to things. |

My little guy is more accepting of all grooming, including brushing his teeth, after watching me "torture" myself with hairbrushes, toothbrushes, and wash cloths. :) |
My vet said to message your dogs gums with your fingers. Do it everyday while you are watching tv or something. This is supposed to help your yorkie get used to fingers in it's mouth. Then go to a small wash cloth with tooth paste and last a tooth brush. I did this and it help. Sophie still wiggles a bit but not to bad. I hope this helps. |
I get a cotton cloth wrap it around my finger and put a blob of toothpaste or Petzlife gel on it and massage her teeth in a circular motion...just be patient, gentle and consistent...your baby will soon get used to this as part of her daily grooming. I also sprinkle 'Plaqueoff' on her food every night.:) |
This is a tought one for us too. Rocky hates it and wiggles like crazy. |
my daughter and my rockie have been having a tough go at the teeth brushing, but my daughters patience with toothbrush and toothpaste is winning. :D rockie wiggles all over the place. it drives my daughter crazy:animal36 |
I absolutely agree. patience and consistence just like anything else. My maltese is so used to brushing his teeth that when I turn on the electric toothbrush, he actually lifts one of his lip for me. :p My 2 yorkies are more of a nightmare- but I started when they were young, and now they are used to it. My little yorkie boy who is 10 months now is the worst of all. He wiggles so much. We tried laying him down, propping him on my lap, sitting him down on a table, it didn't matter. Now, he is ok with it. They even let me brush their tongue. We try to do it 4-5x a week. I also use a special chicken flavored tooth paste with some kind of enzymes that I get from our vet. It's not cheap but it lasts a long time.:D |
