Comfortis flea pill I know some of you are using the comfortis flea pill, we (my husband and I) are keeping 3 labs for servicemen that are in IRAQ , I have always use fromtline plus on the labs, but one came with 6 mos of comfortis pills, having not heard of this I did some research and ran across this causing liver problems in some dogs heres the link: http://www.thathomesite.com/forums/l...2062623.html?4 just thought I would passed it along for whatever it worth.:) |
I worked at a vet clinic--and one of the questions I asked the rep, was if it causes organ damage if overdosed--they told us no, that they seen some vomiting with it, but nothing long term. |
I don't use any type of flea meds, on the my two yorkies I treat the larger dogs and hope the fleas stay off of Wicket and Teddy so far this has worked for me, like I said I had never heard of comfortis untill now, but I will keep a close eye on the one lab that is getting it. I was told to do the heart worm pill one week before or after the comfortis. she will be here for at least 6 mos. she had a full blood panel done last month according to her vet. records. |
:eek::eek: I tried the pill once. I did not like it because the fleas came back after two weeks. I'm so glad I didn't decide to keep using it now. Thanks for this. |

I've actually given up on Frontline Plus cause it hasn't worked for fleas OR ticks for me, and a lot of others are having the same problem according to my vet and groomer. |
The labs have been on it for 2mos, so far no problems, it has help the one lab that has more skin problems she no longer itches. I still have not tried it on the Jack Russell yet she has very sensitive skin she still on frontline plus, the two yorkies still get nothing. I still give it a week apart from the heartguard meds. |
I put the Comfortis on Finn yesterday! He did not get sick at all and acted just fine, we are very glad. Now the itching is still going on, we will see if this gets any better. Thanks for the replies! |
i have read alot on this and would not mix comfortis with any ivermectin product and also not for dogs under 5lbs - have not read the whole thread just posting on this topic |
What is ivermectin ? Is this the Heartgard that I have? I have been giving Finn the Heartgard and the Frontline for months. Is this dangerous? Finn is due for his Heartgard the 31st of this month.:(Finn weighs almost 10 pds.) |
Does anyone know what Comfortis (spinosad) actually IS and HOW it works? |

the fleas have to bite, in order for it to work, I think the spinosad kills them by interferring with the nervous system of the flea |
We use Comfortis for Foxy, and she has been on it for the last 2 years with no issues thus far... |

Comfortis can count me out-----my 'girls' won't be taking it nor any of the other products like it. :thumbdown |
flea and tick meds I have used Frontine on my 10-month Yorkie with horrible results. The first time she started shrieking, crying and rubbing herself all over her bed and the carpet. I tossed her right into the sink. Spoke to the vet who said not to use it again. She suggested I try Revolution. Used it yesterday and thought I was home-free when she seemed fine but after about 3 minutes, she began rolling all over at top speed trying to get it off her. Again we tossed her into the sink. Now I have no idea what to use on her. My vet did mention a chewable that only protects against fleas. I have to assume it is Comfortis. From what I have read on this site, I really don't want her to have that - also,we are having a major flea and tick problem in NJ this year. Let me add that I have a Biewer who is the same age an 4-pounds and he is not having any problem with Frontline. After 4 dogs, this is a first for me. Any suggestions out there before I call the vet. I am researching, but so far no answers  . |
Hi Seastheday; I'm new to Yorkie Forum! I wanted to respond regarding a natural flea control. I use diatomaceous earth. It is an all natural product without any side affects when used properly, providing you use the food grade product. In fact I put a little on Luca (my yorkie) this morning. I also sprinkle a little on his bedding and any other area he sleeps. You can google diatomaceous earth for more information. There are plenty of websites, but I would stick with the holistic ones. Good luck and I hope you try it. Cheers |
