Best Yorkie Food for your Buck, plus other help needed for a Newbie! Hey all, We're getting our new baby here in a few weeks, we have a female and we're wondering about what to feed her, and also about their going into heat, do female dogs actually have a period/bleed? We want to spay her to avoid this and other cancers and other dogs bothering her, but i had to know do they really bleed?? Pet foods i'm considering: Buffalo Blue Puppy Formula Nutro Natural Choice Ultra Puppy food By Nature Puppy Food Science Diet Nature's Best Puppy food Avoderm Puppy food formula Nature's recipe toy, terrier or puppy food (3 kinds) All of these are dry, our pup is four weeks now, we'll get her anywhere from 5-8 weeks when she's ready to eat and be away from mom. Any of these used by you, what do you think, i can't find the really hollistic/organic foods like timerwolf for a small dog like a yorkie, the closest store is PetSmart, i don't have many other choices. Thanks, Rachel and Sadie:thumbs up |
If you can get to the Petsmart you mentioned, I'd recommend Wellness. I wouldn't feed Nutro under any circumstances whatsoever, w/ all the reported deaths. |
thanks for the heads up! |
Welcome to YT :wavey: Yep girls do bleed when they have a heat....I can't give you any help with how much or how long for because I had mine spayed at 6 months before she had her first one...but I don't think it's very much. You must be so excited about getting a new puppy!:D It is generally recommended that yorkies and other small breeds don't leave mum until 12 weeks, especially the really small ones. I've read that there are lots of important socialisation skills that they learn from mum at around 8 weeks old...so maybe the breeder will agree to keep you pup for a little longer? Again, welcome and congrats on your new arrival....be sure to post pics when you have her home :D xxx xxx |
Out of the foods you listed, I would probably go with Blue Buffalo. I don't believe PetSmart sells Wellness. I know PetCo does though. At least the PetSmart I work at doesn't sell it, but maybe other locations do? |
food Welcome !!!! My baby is now 5 months old and has been on Natural Balance Small Bites for small breeds. He is doing very well on it. We get it at Petco for about $15.00 a bag. They don't eat much so a bag lasts awhile. Our petco is also good at giving out coupons during checkout to use on your next purchase. Good luck with bringing your new baby home. They are truly amazing babies...:welcome4: |
