How to tell if your pet has fleas, ticks, or lice? Hello, when I was giving my Lady a bath I saw bugs on her. Unsure if it was lice or fleas. She only goes outside to take care of her business and comes right back in. O btw, I saw about 4 of those things when I was cutting and bathing her. They seem to fall off with water, it seems like. I don't use Frontline and advantix due to having bad results. So, I was wondering if Brewers yeast tabs with onions would be ok to use as preventive? Have you ever heard of this? If so, what is it? Also, what other home prevention methods that would work? If DeFlea spray would work as well? Any input would be great! Thank you in advance! |
Lice are really hard to see with the naked eye...I'd suspect fleas since they fell off, ticks will generally be attached and require removal. I know someone who gives a brewer's yeast tablet every day and reports great results. This may not be effective if you live in a hot humid area. Flea sprays are ineffective at preventing fleas. I use frontline on all four of mine...no ill effects and no fleas either. |
It sounds like fleas. Ask your vet for a Capstar. It kills all the fleas on you dog and works for 24hrs. Also I also tried flea spray and it did not work at all. |
The bad results...were there reactions or did it just not work? Onions are really never okay to give. |
I use Frontline now that Piper is a year old. Last summer the vet did not want her on Frontline because she was so young. He told me that if I saw any fleas on her to bath her with Dawn dish detergent. |
just posted this on another thread..... Quote:
My Mom has been using peppermint oil mixed with water (15 drops oil to 1 cup of water)...and it's been working!! No fleas, ticks, or biting bugs!! put it in a spray bottle...shake it up good...don't spray directly on the dog....spray on a towel or rag then wipe him/her down with it...all over...especially the underside. you can apply this everyday if need be. And....NO CHEMICALS!! My Mom got this info from a holistic vet. __ |
