Testicle problems I received a three year old maltipoo for free. The problem is he only has one testicle hanging. He is having terrible issues with potty training. Do you think having him neutered would help? How much do you think it might cost? Trying everything I can think of. |
Probably could have something to do with it, but some small dogs are just difficult to potty train regardless. What I do know is that you absolutely need to get him neutered ASAP because when the testicle doesn't descend, I'm pretty sure it can turn cancerous. Not sure how much it would cost, because it's probably more complicated, but I would guess between 200-400 depending on your vet, and what needs to be done for him specifically in that situation. |
Wylie was cryptorchid too. Make sure your vet is experienced at this kind of neuter, bc it is not always easy. I waited until Wy was about 10 mths to see if it would drop, it didn't. |
i don't know about the housebreaking but i do know he definitely needs to be neutered ASAP. The undescended testicle can grow and because a cancerous mass that involves or entwines the other organs. A vet i used to work with once took a cantaloupe size testicle out of a golden retriever which had large blood vessels that were constricting other more important blood vessels. |
The cost of neutering a cryptorchid will vary depending on what area of the country you live in. It is more expensive than a standard neuter because they have to go into the abdomen to retrieve the other testicle. You really have no choice, though. As the others have pointed out, the undescended testicle can twist on its stalk, cutting off the blood supply or it can become cancerous. If he is marking, neutering may or may not help. |
Your Malti Poo is what they call Monarcid. Not sure of the spelling. You need to get him neutered as soon as possible. This means that one testicle is still in his abdomen and that can become cancerous. Also, he should never be bred as it can be hereditary but the worse thing is the problems that the undesended testicle can cause. Neutering also helps with the marking. Good luck with your new dog. |
Thank you all for your responses I didn't realize how serious it was, but I will have him neutered as soon as possible. I have a really good vet that's willing to work with you on payments, so I'm sure we can work it out right away. I just hope he's not in terrible pain. Thank you again for taking the time to respond so quickly. |
