Lucy's top back tooth came out Question... We were wiping her down after playing at the park and she was biting at the brush. we notice when we were finished that a tooth with a little blood on it was on the floor. It looked a little bigger than tiny. I'm sure I'm just freaking out for no reason. Is that normal at almost 5 months old....(obviously it's all new to us!!) |
She's teething and adult teeth will replace the baby teeth she's losing now. Yorkies are prone to retaining baby teeth so don't be surprised and it's necessary to have those removed. This is usually done at the same time as a spay. |

If they stay in they retain food and get tartar and plaque build-up and can cause gum disease, gingivitis....and smelly breath among other things. So it's a health related removal more than a cosmetic one. |
Also if the babies are still in when the adults come in, they'll end up with lots of crooked teeth as well. When Uni's babies fell out, yes there was blood on it. They were kind of hollow though, just like human baby teeth, there's nothing on the inside. I kept all of her baby teeth :) |
I found three of Stella's yesterday (5 months also), and all of them were a little bit bloody. One even still had a little bit of a sharp root on the bottom of it (she was chewing on chicken breast chunks after I brushed her teeth, so she was munching pretty hard). Another one literally got stuck in her puppy nylabone. Kinda gross but I had to remark at how weird it was. If you see them chewing on something and you don't know what it is, try to see if it's a tooth because Stella was chewing on hers for about 10 minutes before I figured out what it was and took it away from her--I don't want her to chip any of her new teeth by chewing on her baby teeth! |
Piper is 14 months old and she had 6 retained baby teeth removed when she was spayed. I think she has all her adult teeth now and I never found one baby tooth any where in the house. I often wondered where all her baby teeth went. |
Gwen ATE her baby teeth unless I took them away.... :confuse2: |
