Nice to meet you! :) I can try to help, but just to get a little more history... Which foods have you tried? Is your dog currently on a flea preventative, and if so, which one? What meds has he been prescribed so far? Is he always itchy like this, or does it become worse at certain times of the year? There are a lot of things that can trigger skin problems. Food allergies, pollen allergies, and flea allergies are the most common ones. My yorkie has seasonal pollen allergies, and I have a cat who is allergic to almost everything out there, so I've got some experience dealing with these issues in my own animals. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk! My DH's dog itches like that. When it gets bad he ends up on some kind of medicine. He shampoos him in oatmeal soap and he eats the Verus food ~ the smelly fish kind.. seems to help somewhat. I could ask the same questions as the poster before me but I will wait until you answer those to get a better idea as well. |
I have one alergic to foods, he is now on prescribed alergy food only, and doing pretty good. Also have one who is alergic to something in the air......tried everything, vet put her on atopica, and it has really made a difference. Good luck, dont give up I know you will find something that helps your baby. |
My dad is visiting with his little pom, Bo. He's 11 years old and has the balding on his back end from biting / scratching so much. I went to the petstore and got some oatmeal shampoo (Pet Botanics) and Oxy Med (Medicated oatmeal treatment rinse by Tropiclean). I used it on him and he hasn't been itching since I tried it. The shampoo has to stay on for 5 to 10 minutes and then the medicated rinse has to stay on for 3 plus minutes. It's worked for him. The rinse says it helps with seborrhea, scaling, eczema, hot spots, flaking and flea bite dermatitis. Hope that helps. Welcome to YT!!! |
Welcome to YT! My daughter's Golden Retriever had a bad itching problem. She changed his food to Wellness Brand and it stopped....Maybe a change in food would help. Hope you can find something that will work for him. |

first have you done a food elimination diet? Has the vet run a 6 panel thyroid and sent to jean dodds or michigan state as that is real important with hair loss and skin condition to first rule out hypothyroid as my dog is hypothyroid as well - tell us what you have done and what your dog is eating in detail and we can narrow some things down for you |

How Often Should You Bathe Your Pet? |
if you have not done a food elimination diet then i would do natural balance venison and sweet potato for 12 weeks - NO TREAT NOTHING BUT FOOD FOR 12 WEEKS - even if environmental allergies as 90% is environmental being on a limited food is important for allergy dogs |
