no grain diet? Are Yorkies suppose to be on a 0 grain diet? Is that too much protein for them? Origen grain free is 38% protein, is that too much for a yorkie? What could you add to the diet to balance things out? |

There is really no such thing as too much protein unless your dog has a liver issue. Layla's diet is like 60-70% protein and she is doing great. If you still wanted to add soemthing you could add sweet potato |

Dogs are carnivores so their bodies are designed to digest high amounts of meats, and have no need for grains. Orijen has GREAT kibbles IMO. :) |
I feed Acana Provincial kibble, which is grain-free but not quite as high in protein as the other grain-free diets out there. Their formulations are 33-34% protein. Like some other people, I was concerned about going overboard on the protein level, but wanted the benefits of a grain-free formula and a higher protein level than is available in most commercial diets. I think it is a nice compromise, and Penny is doing beautifully on it. |
If you want to feed a grain free food that is a little lower in protein, you can use Acana or Taste of the Wild. Both are good foods (personally I think Acana is a little better though). Taste of the Wild is very popular due to being grain free and it is the lowest priced grain free food. Many dogs seem to do fine on it. |
