flaky skin on puppy? My pup is nine weeks old and i have her a week. Ive noticed the last few days her skin is very flaky around the back of her and she is scratching alot in this area. It looks somewhat like bad dandruff!! I just finished brushing away alot of it from her coat, Any suggestions what could be causing this?? |
Take a good look...ARE THEY MOVING  It could be dry skin, mites or walking dandriff (some sort of mite) |
I had a good look and there is nothing moving  Just flakes! |

Could be some soap that didn't get rinsed off too. I just had to take Roxie to the vet for scratching so much. They think it's allergies and put her on some meds to calm down the itching. |

Two weeks after my husband and I got our yorkie she started getting flaky skin on her back. We thought it was just dry skin from having to have so many baths. We took her to the vet just for a set of shots and turns out it was ringworm. If it hasn't gotten any better or haven't seen the vet yet you might consider it. We never would have known if she hadn't needed to go in for shots. |
How long did it take to get rid of the ringworm? My new pup came with it and my kids have caught it. She's being treated with cream but I am terrified of the cycle... |
Were there any other symptoms? Nala is our new puppy and we've gotten 2 sets of puppy shots through our vet and they've done all the usual checks for heartworm and fecal, would that include a ringworm check? |
I found out that the topical flea treatments was what was causing my two puppies to have flaky skin. Needless to say I have stopped the topical stuff and switched something else. Good luck. |
It's been a little over 2 months since she got it and it just completely went away and her hair is starting to grow back now in that spot. We used a topical cream daily and then every 3-4 days gave her a bath with a medicated shampoo and let it stay on for 10 minutes before rinsing it off. It's been a long process but luckily no children got it. |
Also, if it hasn't started going away there is a pill your vet can prescribe you. We didn't ever do that because the cream worked pretty good just took a while. The pill might be a quicker way, you could probably ask your vet. |
He said he wanted to give the cream a chance to work. Actually, she looks much better and the hair has started growing back, but three out of the four of us are infested with ringworm now, too. Its only been two weeks, but it seems like forever! |
what cream were you perscribed? |
Caroline has miconazole nitrate 2%, and we have oxyconazole. I'm using an OTC fungicidal spray as well. |
