baby is still scratching and chewing herself... I took my baby to the vet yesterday for chewing her paws and biting her hind end. They gave her a steroid shot, but she is still doing it. It could be food allergies, does anyone have any stories to share with me or suggestions??? |
Have you try changing the food. Whats the shampoo you are using. Is she in a stressful situation. Is there something around the house chemicals, what do you use on the floor or rugs, laundry soap. You might try the internet for more advise. |
welcome to yt . When my border collie was a pup and biting her paws the vet said it was harvest mites. Hope this helps. |

I havent changed anything and she is not in a stressful situation. I am thinking it may be her food. I have not changed it either, but I guess they can develop allergies just as humans can. Thanks! |
WELCOME to YT! :) How old is she? When did this start? What are you feeding? Was she checked for mites, fleas, yeast, bacteria? Any gunk/specs between her toes? In her ears? Eye gunk? I'm kind of surprised your vet jumped right to steroid, unless the itching is extremely severe and/or she is breaking skin. |

Itching Where did you go on vacation? It really sounds like a food allergy to me. The vet can give you anti itch pills. It could just be fleas or something the dog picked up while you were on vacation. |
if the steroid shot did not work it is not environmental it is food as steroids only work for environmental allergy - start transitioing over to natural balance venison and sweet potato. Back end is flea allergy and a flea bite can last up to 3 weeks on a flea allergy dog but the steroids should have stopped that as well. do the food 12 weeks not treats nothing and see if you see a calming. have you bathed recently? bath in hypoallergenic shampoo weekly as well just to make sure not pollens on top of food allergy. Yes allergy dogs can become allergic to food after being on it for a long period of time -- what could have happened is food was a bother then taking to an area with lots of pollens just made it worse and aggravated the situation or got bit by a flea and has been aggravating for 3 weeks since it is the hind end. Allergies start from ages 6 mos to 3 years what food are you feeding ? are ears inflamed after eating as that is a sign of food allergy and does yours get ear infections as that is another sign of food allergy |
so i take it your dog got a dexamothesone shot :( those are stronger than temarilp - if your dog needs immediate relief get temaril p as safer than prednisone or dex shots and shots last alot longer in the system and safest to do temarilp every other day |
