can yorkies overdose on Cosequin? i started giving milu Cosequin about weeks ago, and i was giving her 1 pill a day everyday. (she is 3 lbs now) i know i am supposed to cut back on the amt. of Cosequin i give her now and i just started giving her 1/2 a pill a day. but i can hear her bones make cracking sounds again sometimes when i pick her up. is it ok to just keep giving her 1 pill a day? or 1/2 pill a day? because i am supposed to be giving her less than that according to the directions. but is it harmful to their health to give more than the recommended amt. ? thank you so much! |
Roxy is 5 lbs and I give her 1/2 of the capsule every morning. TJ is 7 lbs and I give him 1/4 of a Dasiquin Tablet every monring. |
It is very safe but I know of at least one vet that says they can overdose. Maybe do one whole pill for three more weeks and then reduce it. The instructions I go were to do the loading dose for six weeks. |

so i guess i have to cut back. i was just wondering if it's like vitamin C. you can just take as much as you want. |

If Ellie only did well with one whole capsule per day, that's what I'd do. Her kness still crack at a whole one though, so I just stop trying to figure it out and . |
Morgan's 4.5lbs and i give her a whole capsule almost every day. |
gheez...maybe I am not giving enough :( |

LOL i have no idea. The bottle says dogs under 10lbs -- 1/2 - 1 capsule every day. then it says after the initial dose you can lessen it to a level that maintains your dogs comfort. i take that to mean if you lessen it and it doesn't work as well then you can continue the higher dose you were giving before. The amount of glucosamine and chondrotine in each capsule is not going to overdose them if giving 1 every day. |
its not about giving enough or not giving enough. its about finding the dose that maintains their comfort level. so if it happens to be 1/2 a cap then great, if they need a whole cap then so be it. |

You need to know what signs she has of discomfort and adjust the dose according to that. What was she doing that made you put her on cosequin? If she's stopped doing that since she's been on the cosequin then start lowering her dose until she starts that action again. then bump it up a little so that she stops the action. |
