For the Health of Both of US I guess this is a health queations. certainly for me anyway. ha My husband and I 'rescued' a shihtzu/maltese mix from a family member who had almost abandoned the little girl. She is 10-12 weeks, not sure. Maddie HATES her! Maddie is two and this has always been her world in which my hubby and I lived. She won't have anything to do with Cooper, the newbie, or even us when we are with her. I have done everything I can to make Maddie feel assured. She still goes on car rides with us by herself, special treats throughout the day, same as before. SHe is the only one we have allowed in bed at night. She is just different. I expected that but, I am missing my little girl. How long will this last? A few times she has even shown aggression to the puppy. I have let her 'discipline' the puppy if she is aggrivating her or taking her toys from her, but she just growls at the site of her.:( The puppy wants to play so bad. This is affecting my health and making Maddie act miserable. I am afraid if we give up and find the puppy a new home, this is reinforcing the behavior and we will deal with it when we have a baby. Will this work out? Anyone with any suggestions please????? |
Ok. Today is no better. How long will this continue? Maddie is warming up to me but acting aggressive toward Cooper, even when Cooper is near her. I have started calling her down when she growls or snaps at the puppy for just being near her. Is this wrong? |
How long have you had the puppy? When we got Myah, Chloe' was 4 and the princess of the house. We just tried to keep things as normal for Chloe' as possible. We didn't leave them along together for a very long time. Chloe' wasn't too sure about what was all going on with this new little puppy. She is tollerant of Myah, but they aren't "close".. It took us about a month for Chloe' not to growl or walk away everytime Myah came close. She did get yelled at when she was sounding too mean, but never came close to hurting Myah. We have a small crate that Myah get to in when Chloe' is being in one of her, leave me alone moods. I'd give it some time, and try not to stress over it. They will work out the pecking order between them. Just don't leave them alone. |
Hi there I would try and take them for lots of short walks together. There are no toys or distractions on a walk and they will bond better that way. Hope this helps. In time they will learn to love one another hang in there and be patient you'll see it will all work out. |
It varies with each dog but they do accept the new one and usually go on to be best buddies. Just hang in there all of mine have worked it out pretty quickly. |

Yyyiiipppeeee!!!! I just had to update!!! I am so freaking excited! (Pardon the lang! :o) Maddie is playing with Cooper!! I mean playing, no mistake. They are playing what looks like a gave of tag and hide and seek combined. There is a mad dash of running in circles around the furniture, and Maddie usually dashes behind the sofa and peeks under it so she can see Cooper's feet. Then, when Cooper is about to give up, WHAM! Maddie jumps out ready to pounce.:p I am so Happy. I tried to call the hubby at work and expalin and he just didn't share my enthusiasm so I decided to come were this little story would be appreciated!:D |
Yay so happy for all of you:) Snick & Viv |
Exciting news! I'm so happy for you all. |
Yippeeee!!! They will have their good days and off days...just let them work things out between them, unless someone is in danger of being hurt, that is. |
