skin problem, newly discovered About 4 weeks ago, just above the eyes, on the forehead, our little princess showed some whiskey coloured spots on otherwise blond hair. Like little freckles. I thought it most unusual. Now, it seems suddenly, there is some visible thinning of hair in that spot, and darkening of the skin below. The skin also seems a bit crusty or scabby. the surface affected is the size of a small pea. princess is 1,5 yrs old , very well adjusted, happy, healthy, active, and has good appetite. I feed her some raw diet , and mornings I offer her kibble (ORIJEN), often I add to her main meal some cooked organic chicken liver or our cooked chicken of turkey. We do not eat beef of other red meat,so neither does she. I believed that we were feeding her well and now it looks that something is missing or otherwise. Any ideas or comments??? would appreciate some help |
I would get to the vet asap and get that area cultured - it will take about 10-14 days to grow the culture. This could be ringworm (a fungus, not a worm) and would need to be treated asap; and, btw, in dogs it will not always show the typical "ring" as it does in human skin. Very common in dogs to start on the head. It could be something else too, but either way I'd get to the vet soon. :) |
sounds like staph or fungal - hopefully not demodex so i would have a mite scraping for demodex as demodex affects the head and cytology for bacteria -- i would go to a dermatologist for this as they can narrow it down much faster than most vets can and in long run save you money does it look like any of my pics as have been dealing with skin issues for 5 years DEE DEE ALLERGIES pictures by dwerten - Photobucket |
