Need to change food The economy stinks and I need to save some money. Anyone know a canned food thats less than 2.50 a can AND a good food? And does anyone know if my dogs can have solid gold green tripe day in/out and be safe? |
Do you feed only canned for a reason or do you feed kibble too? In the long run, canned is actually more expensive because you can't store it as long. I buy a few cans a week and mix it in the dry food for Jackson. He gets Innova dry food (which here is $12.95 for a 6lb bag) and Innova canned (which is $1.50 or something per can) or the Dog Whisperer canned food (from Petco, it's around $1.30 or something per can). |
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul is a good quality food that is very economical. I don't know if it comes in cans though. It's rated pretty high on dogfoodanalysis.com. |
So far they really dislike kibble. Weve been on premade raw but at 100 dollars a month its killing me. Chloe will actually suck off the canned and spit out the kibble. When I tried kibble Chloe mdae herself throw up daily by starving herself. Shes very hard headed and not completely healthy. But I love her totally. |
Thats so cute, the sucking off the canned food and spitting out the kibble, not the throwing up. :( I dont feed canned but hope you find something that works for you. I know when we start crunching numbers each month my hubby always mentions the "food" bill and looks in her direction. lol We can't help but love em though! |
I would go to a good pet food store and see what they have for canned food. I would think Innova would be good. Chicken Soup also makes a canned food which is pretty cheap. There are several others as well. I would check to make sure to get a good complete food since your dog won't eat kibble. I would also consider rotation feeding so that you are supplying a variety of nutrients. That way, what one food lacks, another may have. |
The Chicken Soup canned food is good stuff--I looked at the ingredients and there was nothing that I didn't know what it was...better than I can say for most of my foods! I mix in a teaspoon of that with Stella's dry kibble at dinnertime, it helps to get her to eat it right away so I can take her out and get that over with before too late. |
I know there's a Merrick food (I'm not sure which flavor- or if it's all flavors) that you can add hot water to and it turns into "gravy". They might like that. They have 1# bags at most quality pet food stores for $1.99. |
Chicken soup is a good canned food and I can get it here for .99 a can. My dogs didnt tolerate it well. Merricks offers canned but I do beleive its usually around 2.80ish for a can, they do have a new line of food called whole earth farms and the canned is 1.86 on thier website. Most of your better canned foods are over 2.50 a can. |
I just got some taste of the wild and evo cans for right around $2 each can. both are high quality foods.... |
we are feeding naltural balanced canned food and its around 1.50 a can |
In my opinion, a lot of the canned food are somewhat questionable. Quite a few brands still use Menu Foods and Evangers had an issue too (said it was just a paper processing problem, but others say differently). So anyway, I can't really recommend one. Canned food as the sole diet source can be extremely expensive though. Could you try crushing the kibble and using less canned? |
Lifes Abundance has some can foods and its like $34.50 for 24 cans which is like $1.44 per can! I have never gotten any but have heard from some friends that feed the canned food that their babies like it. I feed Gizmo the Lifes Abundance dry dog food and he likes it but I have not fed him the canned food. |
