when to fix your yorkie My husband and i are approaching the time where you need to think about fixing your yorkie. We have a female and we are trying to decide when we should fix her. We hear you should fix before their first heat, but my grandmother advised us to fix her after her first heat. I trust the opinions and answers you guys give, so what do you suggest? |
Usually the vet recommends fixing the female when/if there are extra teeth to remove. It really is better to have them fixed before their first heat. |
Usually around 6 months. |

Tessie is 5 months old and is having her first heat. The vet advised to wait until she is 6 months old to spay. It cost more to have them spayed while in heat because of extra procedures, I was told. |
I had Twinkle spayed at six months - before her first heat. She was 8lb when she was spayed.....I know that some advise against spaying a girl at 6 months if they are really tiny xxx xxx |
We had Lexi spayed at 6 months. Before her first heat. She only weighed about 3 1/2 lbs. She did great...no problems at all. Unfortunately my vet did not want to do her teeth at that time as he wanted us to see if they came out on their own. Now she has to go on Tuesday to have them removed as she is now 8 months and up to 4 lbs now...she's getting big LOL Again, I get to be a nervous wreck:( |
Ginger was spayed at 7.5 months and before her first heat. They pulled 4 baby teeth too. I was really nervous that she would have her first heat before I could get her scheduled but we made it in time. :aimeeyork |
Are boy the same What about neutering for a male? Is it the same at 6 monts? I heard if they get neutered it prevents them from hiking there leg? Is this true? |
I had two male cairn terriers and both were neutered. They continued to hike their leg. |
