ADVICE WANTED: getting neutered...teeth removal too? So little 4.2lb Tyce has an appointment to get neutered next Thursday and I may or may not be freaking out! I'm of course nervous about it, the vet said there should be no problems "we do little ones all the time!" but of course I asked about all precautionary tools...and the drip was suggested "in case anything happens" which will hydrate him faster, etc. THOUGHTS? It's $60 extra, so I am sort of thinking just do it!, yeah? Also, he has three baby teeth sticking around. One on the top front that is stiff stiff stiff. That one prevents me from brushing the tooth behind because they are SO TIGHT together. Then, on the bottom the two larger teeth beside the teeny front four are still there too...but the adult teeth are inset because of this...therefore if those babies were removed his teeth would be crooked like crazy, and probably the rest would eventually move as well (otherwise he looks like he had braces, theyre amazing!) SOOOOO, should I get them removed? (getting rid of the possibility of having to put him under later on if his teeth becomming dirty is an issue), or wait it out and see what happens...? I brush his teeth at least three times a week, but they do prevent from getting everything, and often there is grossness stuck in them. It's only $25 per tooth, so again, SHOULD I?! thanks for any advice/issues you've had/things I should do! |
Yes, I would get the teeth done now or you may regret it later. Yes, I would get the IV. I would also do preop blood work and make sure surgery is done on a heated surface. What anesthesia are they using? |
I would do the drip the vet knows best when it comes to surgery in her care and with being neutered it is the best. I had my little girls teeth pulled because they were taking forever to fall out and it gave her bad breath even with brushing and taking care of them. they put her under with gas but she was only having her teeth done. I would just do the whole shebang get it over with. he will hardly notice they pulled them. it wont add to the pain from being getting neutered. |
you know what, i get rediculously nervous on phones (anxiety...sigh) and i didnt ask what kind of anesthesia they will use. they do use heat pads as long as i ask for it. i asked everything but what anesthesia...so, what should i look for then? (whats bad, whats good?) |
Do it all! My little Yorky had several teeth that needed to be extracted because the baby teeth did not fall out. We had the vet do this when he was neutered to avoid having to put him under again. We are SO pleased we did this as he has beautiful teeth now and will help his health as he grows older. As for the "drip" I would recommend it too as with as little as he is, it is better to be safe than sorry. They can dehydrate so quickly. As for our little guys recovery, he recovered more quickly than I did! The same evening he was up and around and even eating a soft dinner. They are amazing little guys! Good luck and hope all goes well for you both.:aimeeyork |
I would definitely recommend having the teeth pulled while under. Why so expensive to have them removed? I think we only paid like $4 or $8 dollars per tooth. Toby also had the pre-op blood work done. Toby's neutering process was also done by laser (no stitches!). I was a wreck too, but it'll all be ok! |
k so hes in surgery right now. im going insane. so i talked to them for an hour before i let them take him away. and the vet talked me into a few things i am nervous about: he is getting his rabies shot at the same time as the neuter, microchip, AND he didnt just have 3 teeth, there were 2 more i didnt even see! (and i brush his teeth every day! they must be very tiny...or behind the teeth...im not even sure). i dont really know if i should have waited, but this is all costing me upwards of 500 bucks and coming back in a week to get the shots would cost me 38 just for the appointment, then the shots. im so worried i made the wrong decision. he is getting the drip, and pre-op blood work, which is partially why its "so expensive", but im still worried :(. |

i have no idea, its REDICULOUS. it was $75 for each canine tooth that wasnt out, and $25 for the smaller ones. BAHUMBUG. |
1 Attachment(s) Mikki got spayed last Tuesday and had a spare canine tooth pulled for $35 (all others came out naturally.) She's doing good and wants already to do more than she is supposed to... (how do you keep a mountain goat from climbing??? ;) ) We are sending good vibes and healing prayers your way! |

Sending hugs and prayers. I just got back from the vet with Pebbles for her yearly and I made an appt for her and Coco to get their baby teeth out on Monday. She weighs 5.2. I'm not sure about Coco I would say about 7lbs. I have to bring him in later on this afternoon to get a health check and weight I'm nervous already...I can imagine how you must be feeling. We know they are in good hands and will be fine but this is what we mama's do...we worry. Certainly hope your little boy is back to his old self in no time. As for you... might I suggest some little white pills haha. :ghug: GET WELL SOON TYCE |
Just wanted to let you know that Toby and I are thinking of you and Tyce! :wave4: I bet he will back to himself in no time! Our vet requires an overnight stay and Toby was back to himself the next morning when I picked him up. The hardest part is getting him to stay calm and not jump around and play. |
Thinking about you and your little one. You made the right decisions to have it all done while he is under. Unfortately having a pet today is like having a child and the expenses can be huge. Ours was ill over the past three weeks and with two vet visits and all that went with it, it was over $630.00. When they have the teeth pulled it doesn't really seem to phase them and they bounce back quickly. I hope all went well and a speedy recovery! |
hes home. sleeping now, and i just took off his bandages and he looks rather silly with one shaved leg...well have to see what im going to do with that another day. for now, yay tyce! home, safe and snoring! |
