Retained baby tooth and bleeding gums...
 
Hi all...

Well Snick just turned 1 year old this week and I am still dealing with his 1 retained baby tooth. This sucker is in tight. I went to brush his teeth today and noticed his gums were bleeding when I brushed them. I do know that I need to brush more often and the bleeding will stop, but it only bleeds where this baby tooth is. Is there a connection? Snick is due for his annual in Oct, but my husband and I think the tooth might need removal sooner??

Opinions & suggestions please....

Tia has just turned a year old and has an upper canine still there. She had the other one a couple of weeks ago but a good game of tug of war sorted that one out. Like yours this one is quite firm in there and Im going to give it till xmas then think about removal. It doesn't bleed when her teeth are brushed though. Let me know how you get on ;);)

Toby turned 2 in March and still has 1 retained baby tooth. He did have 2 but vigorous play and brushing got it loose enough the vet could just tweak it out. This one looks like it may never come out, and if it doesn't we're most likely stuck with it. He had a cardiac arrest when he was neutered, so he won't be going under again unless it's a matter of life or death. I struggle mightily to keep his teeth clean and don't feel like I'm winning the battle. His gums do get sore now and then, and once in a great while there is a tiny bit of blood but I just keep plugging away and hoping!

If it is still in tight at a year and it is causing bleeding problems, I'd probably just have it removed. There is a slight possibility that because it's only one baby tooth, it can be done by numbing instead of general anesthesia.

Snick might have gingivities and that's why his gum is bleeding. brush everyday but that tooth might need to be taken out
